Local Insights
Richmond’s city population of 2,130 and its location within a larger metro area of 2.6+ million reflect a community that is small in scale but tied to a growing regional market. A steady growth rate of 2.33% annually points to ongoing residential and infrastructure activity—more home improvements, driveway fixes, yard upgrades, and small construction jobs. Local climate factors — including 228/year sunny days and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b — create a mix of demands: materials must handle occasional wet periods without trapping water, tolerate UV exposure, and support planting choices suited to milder winters. For homeowners that means choosing the right balance of drainage materials, base soils, mulches, and decorative stone so projects last and perform well. These trends make access to consistent, locally sourced bulk materials (gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and aggregates) especially important for reliable results and predictable scheduling.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Richmond commonly order bulk materials like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone together for landscaping and construction projects. These materials are used for driveways, patios, drainage layers, garden beds, and grading. Regional sourcing means texture and color can vary, so check photos and ask questions before ordering.
Choose based on load, drainage, and finish: pick a material that compacts well for driveways, a granular base for patios, and a free-draining mix for drainage trenches. Consider local freeze-thaw cycles and how the material will shed water in West Ohio conditions. Use our material calculator or contact our team for guidance tailored to your project and site.
Richmondu001bu001fu0010s cold winters and freeze-thaw cycles can affect settling and drainage, so pick materials that resist frost heave and drain well. Snow and melt season increase the need for stable, well-graded aggregates to avoid ruts and washouts. Expect regional variation in material performance and ask about local recommendations when ordering.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area to calculate cubic yards, then use our material calculator to convert cubic yards into tons for your selected material. Different materials have different densities, so the calculator or our team will give the most accurate estimate. If youu001bu001fu0010re unsure, request help from our sales team with your measurements or a photo of the site.
Standard delivery is available in about 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is offered for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump truck fleets, usually tri-axle trucks, and have a minimum order of 3 tons. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout, and regional sourcing means materials usually come from nearby suppliers.
Yes, we deliver to rural and limited-access addresses, but you should note access details in the order notes, including gate codes, narrow driveways, low overhead wires, or soft ground. Drivers will assess site conditions on arrival and may decline to offload where it would be unsafe; additional fees can apply for long carries or hand spreading. If access is tight, consider a drop location off the driveway or contact our team to discuss options before ordering.
Local permits, zoning rules, or HOA guidelines can apply to driveways, hardscaping, and visible landscaping changes in Richmond. Check with your city, township, or HOA before ordering materials to confirm any setback, surface, or drainage requirements. We can help with timing and delivery details but cannot determine permit requirements for you.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change quantities, delivery date, or the drop location; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched. We will do our best to update orders, but modifications are subject to supplier and carrier schedules and cannot be guaranteed. For cancellations or refunds, follow the instructions on our order confirmation or contact customer service promptly.
Natural materials vary by region, so color, texture, or particle size may differ from photos or samples. If the delivered material seems significantly different, contact customer service promptly with photos and your order details so we can work to resolve the issue. Refer to our refund and issue-resolution guidance for next steps.
For small landscape projects like installing a few cubic yards in garden beds or simple paths, many homeowners can DIY using basic tools. For large driveways, heavy grading, or projects needing compactors and proper base layers, hiring a contractor is usually safer and more efficient. If you need help finding local installers, we can point you toward common contractor options in the West Ohio area.
Price is influenced by material type and quantity, local supplier rates, distance from the quarry or pit, site access, and seasonal demand. Next-day delivery, special handling, or long carries can add to delivery costs. Get an instant quote on our site or contact our sales team for a detailed estimate based on your zip code and project details.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion for small loads, but there are no guarantees and safety will be assessed on arrival. For full installation services or precise grading and compaction, we recommend hiring a local contractor who specializes in installation. You can request spreading at checkout and we will note it for the driver, who will assess feasibility upon arrival.
