Local Insights
New Washington is a small but active community with a city population of 1,520 and ties to a larger regional market of 2.6+ million people. A steady annual growth rate of 2.33% means more homeowners are investing in property upgrades, driveways, and small-scale development—demand that typically translates into consistent need for bulk aggregates and landscape materials. The local climate — hardiness zone 8b with 228/year sunny days and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall — favors projects that balance drainage and durability. For residents that means choosing the right combination of base materials, topsoils, sands, and decorative stone so installations shed water, resist rutting after wet periods, and stand up to long sunny stretches. In a growing area, sourcing quality bulk materials on a reliable schedule helps keep remodels, landscaping, and infrastructure projects on track.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials based on the job, not just looks. Consider load (vehicle traffic vs foot traffic), drainage needs, and desired appearance; well-graded aggregates generally perform better for driveways while finer mixes suit planting beds and leveling. Because Hello Gravel sources regionally, expect local variations in color and texture for gravel, sand, dirt, stone; use the online calculator or contact our team for help matching material to your project.
Freeze-thaw cycles can cause settling and heaving if drainage and subbase are inadequate. Pick materials that allow water to drain away from the surface and build a stable base layer before placing finish material. For long-life results, plan for frost drainage, proper compaction, and slightly thicker sections in areas prone to standing water.
Standard delivery requires at least 2 business days and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Rural locations like New Washington may need additional lead time because of supplier routing, narrow roads, or long pickup distances, so schedule earlier for weekend or seasonal projects. We confirm timing during checkout so you can pick a delivery date that works for you.
Many local suppliers and haulers will deliver to rural driveways, but access limitations can affect placement and timing. Truck size, driveway width, overhead lines, and weight limits may restrict how close the truck can get; provide delivery notes, photos, or gate codes at checkout to help. Drivers will assess conditions on arrival and may need to place material at the safest accessible point.
Measure the area (length x width) and determine the required depth, then use this formula: cubic yards = (length ft x width ft x depth in) / 324. Convert cubic yards to tons using the online calculator since weight varies by material; typical conversions range by material type and moisture. If you prefer, use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team with project dimensions for a quick estimate.
Prices vary by material type, quantity, and delivery distance, so local supply and trucking affect final cost. Hello Gravel shows transparent, zip-code based pricing during checkout and requires a minimum order of 3 tons. For an exact cost, enter your zip code and material on our site or request a quote from our team.
Small residential deliveries often do not require permits, but rules differ by township or county and may apply if you alter drainage, build up elevations, or work in right-of-way areas. Check with your local municipal or county office before ordering if your project affects a road, protected wetland, or stormwater system. When in doubt, include a note in your order and our team can help you think through potential requirements.
Spring through fall is the most convenient time for most outdoor projects because ground access and compaction are easier. Winter deliveries are possible but can be slower and more complicated due to frozen ground, snow, and limited spreading options. Plan ahead during busy spring and summer months to secure preferred delivery dates.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request the service at checkout. Spreading depends on jobsite conditions, truck equipment, and safety considerations, so it is not guaranteed. If you need guaranteed spreading, plan to hire a local landscaper or contractor and note that in your project plan.
Natural materials reflect local geology, so color and texture can vary from photos or samples. If you are concerned, contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly with photos and order details; we will work with the supplier to address the issue. Review our refund and resolution policy if the delivered material does not match the description.
Clear a safe drop zone, mark desired placement with flags or stakes, and remove vehicles or obstacles from access routes. Note any weight limits, overhead wires, or tight turns in your delivery notes and provide gate codes or contact numbers for the driver. Proper preparation reduces the chance of delays and helps the driver place material where you need it.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; it's usually easier to modify orders before they are dispatched. Changes depend on supplier processing and truck routing, so we cannot guarantee all requests can be accommodated. We will do our best to help and will explain any fees or limits that may apply.
