Local Insights
New Paris is a community of 3,610 residents experiencing steady expansion that affects local demand for home improvement supplies. A 2.33% annual growth rate means more yards being landscaped, driveways repaired, and small-scale construction projects started each year, which increases steady demand for bulk materials like gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone. With 228 sunny days per year and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners have a long workable season but also need materials that handle both sun exposure and periodic wet conditions. That combination makes it important to choose durable, well-graded aggregates and site-ready soils that reduce maintenance and improve drainage. Trends toward outdoor living spaces, hardscape upgrades, and property-level stormwater improvements in growing communities suggest homeowners will prioritize reliable delivery, transparent pricing, and locally sourced materials that reflect regional geology.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners and contractors in New Paris commonly order a mix of bulk aggregates such as gravel, sand, dirt, stone for landscaping, driveways, and grading work. These materials cover most residential and light-commercial projects from base layers to top dressing, and regional suppliers typically stock several blends to match local soil and climate conditions.
Start by identifying the project need: structural support, drainage, or surface finish. Choose a material that provides adequate load-bearing and drainage for driveways, and a finer or decorative blend for patios and planting areas; consider local soil type, slope, and desired appearance, and use Hello Gravel’s material calculator or sales team for a tailored recommendation.
The freeze-thaw cycle in West Ohio can cause settling and frost heave, so select materials and installation depths that allow water to drain and minimize movement. In areas with clay or poorly draining soils, prioritize mixes and installation methods that improve permeability and stability, and consider extra depth or geotextile underlayment for long-term performance.
For drainage and erosion control, coarser, free-draining aggregates combined with proper grading work best to move water away from structures. Pairing aggregate with simple measures like terraces, swales, and erosion-control fabric or vegetation helps stabilize slopes; consult a local contractor for the right depth and edging details for your site.
Plan major deliveries and installations for late spring through early fall to avoid frozen ground, heavy rains, or seasonal supply fluctuations. Winter and early spring can increase the chance of delays or access issues from mud and frozen surfaces, so book early and consider next-day delivery if timelines are tight.
Hello Gravel typically offers standard delivery in 2+ business days with next-day options for orders placed before noon CST; minimum orders start around 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks. Expect tri-axle trucks on site, so confirm drive access, overhead obstructions, and preferred drop location in your order notes to help the driver unload safely.
Contractors typically measure the surface area (length x width) and multiply by the desired depth to get cubic yards, then convert to tons based on material density. Because density varies by material, use Hello Gravel’s calculator or provide the project dimensions to our team for an accurate estimate and recommended overage percentage for compaction and waste.
Many local suppliers and haulers serving West Ohio provide contractor pricing, volume discounts, and priority scheduling for larger or repeat orders. Contact Hello Gravel or our sales team to request contractor rates, set up account pricing, or arrange standing delivery windows for ongoing projects.
Local permits or drainage requirements can apply for significant grading, driveway work, or anything that alters stormwater flow, so check New Paris village or county building and zoning offices before starting. Hello Gravel does not handle permits; we recommend consulting local authorities or a licensed contractor to confirm setbacks, curb cuts, and stormwater rules that could influence material selection.
Rural deliveries may require longer lead times, additional haul charges, or smaller drop locations due to road weight limits and site access; provide clear access instructions and a firm staging area for the truck. The driver will assess safe unloading on arrival, and tailgate spreading is available at the driver’s discretion if requested at checkout, but it is not guaranteed.
Because materials are regionally sourced, texture and color can vary from photos; if the material is not what you expected or you need to change an order, contact Hello Gravel customer service as soon as possible. We will work to resolve the issue and can often adjust orders before dispatch, but changes are subject to supplier and processing constraints and are not guaranteed.
