Local Insights
New Franklin is a community of 5,700 residents positioned near a metro area of 2.6+ million, and its steady 2.33% annually growth is driving more home improvement and small-scale construction projects. That steady expansion means more driveways, patios, garden beds, and utility work—projects that depend on reliable bulk materials. With a climate in hardiness zone 8b, about 228 sunny days per year, and an annual rainfall of 33.00 inches, homeowners need materials that balance drainage, moisture retention, and durability. Those local conditions favor aggregates and soils that manage intermittent rain, hold up to extended sun exposure, and provide a stable base for paved surfaces and planting areas. For New Franklin homeowners, quality bulk supplies—gravel, topsoil, sand, mulch, and stone—translate directly into longer-lasting landscaping and fewer maintenance headaches.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose materials that compact well and shed water so a driveway resists rutting and freeze-thaw damage. In New Franklin's climate, pick a stable, well-graded aggregate and plan for a compacted base and a durable top layer; regional sourcing means texture and color may vary for gravel, sand, dirt, stone. Consult soil and drainage conditions on your site and use the material calculator to estimate depth and quantity.
Measure the area in feet and the intended depth in inches, then convert to cubic yards with: (length x width x depth) / 324. Multiply cubic yards by the approximate weight per cubic yard (varies by material; most aggregates fall in a similar range) to get tons, or use Hello Gravel's online calculator for a quick estimate. If you expect compaction or waste, add 5-10% extra.
Delivery cost depends on material type, order size, and distance from the local supplier. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing at checkout, with a 3-ton minimum and standard delivery in 2+ business days; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Materials that drain well and lock together after compaction perform best through freeze-thaw cycles. Select aggregates and bases designed for stability and drainage, and consider proper grading, compaction, and slope to move water away from the surface; these practices help whether you are using gravel, sand, dirt, or stone. Local suppliers offer regionally sourced options that reflect West Ohio geology and weather patterns.
Spring through early fall is generally best because ground is not frozen and weather is more predictable for compaction and curing. Order lead times and peak-season demand mean you should schedule deliveries at least a few days to a couple of weeks ahead; standard delivery requires 2+ business days, and next-day is possible for early orders. Avoid scheduling during very wet or frozen conditions when spreading and compaction can be difficult.
Yes; suppliers and contracted dump truck fleets commonly deliver to homes in the New Franklin area, subject to access and safety constraints. Hello Gravel coordinates delivery and requires a minimum order of 3 tons; drivers will assess site access on arrival and may decline or alter the drop location if conditions are unsafe. If you need spreading or special placement, request it at checkout but expect it to be performed at the driver's discretion.
Many local contractors in the West Ohio area install, grade, and compact bulk materials for driveways, patios, and landscaping. Labor and equipment costs vary by project size, site difficulty, and required compaction specs; contractors typically charge by the hour or by the job, so get multiple quotes and check references. Hello Gravel supplies the materials and delivery; you can coordinate installation separately with contractors.
Some neighborhoods or HOAs may have rules about driveway materials, visible stone color, or limits on loose aggregates, and the city may have regulations for impervious surfaces and drainage. Before ordering, check New Franklin municipal codes and any HOA guidelines that apply to your property to avoid rework or fines. If in doubt, request clarification from your HOA or local building office.
Compare durability, maintenance, drainage performance, and appearance for your project's needs and budget. For walkways pick a stable, compactable material that provides firm footing; for patios plan for a stable base and a material that suits the finished look you want, keeping in mind local climate and drainage. Use the aggregate quiz or talk to our team to match multiple material options to your project goals.
Clear a safe access route for the dump truck, mark any underground utilities or landscaping features, and agree on a drop location in the Order Notes at checkout. Make sure the chosen area can support the truck's weight and is free of obstructions; if access is limited, discuss options with our team before delivery. Drivers usually will not move material far from the drop point, so plan for where you want material placed ahead of time.
Because materials are regionally sourced, color, texture, and angularity can vary from website photos and samples. If you have concerns after delivery, contact our customer service promptly so we can review the issue and work toward a resolution; refer to our refund and issue process for details. Adding color or finish preferences in Order Notes can help reduce surprises but cannot guarantee exact matches.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible; order changes are easiest before a truck is dispatched and may be limited after processing. We will do our best to accommodate schedule changes, quantity adjustments, or cancellations, but some changes may incur fees depending on supplier and dispatch status.
