Local Insights
Marietta has a city population of 20,930, and that steady local base—combined with a metro area population of 2.6+ million—helps explain why construction and landscaping demand is consistent and growing. A 2.33% annual growth rate signals healthy, ongoing residential and commercial activity rather than a short-lived boom; that means more driveways, garden upgrades, hardscape features, and small additions where homeowners need predictable, reliable bulk materials. Marietta's climate and geography—228 sunny days a year, 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b—shape what materials work best. Durability against periodic wet conditions, good drainage mixes, UV-resistant surface layers, and planting-friendly topsoil are all practical needs. For homeowners, that translates into choosing materials that manage water, resist weathering, and support local plantings, while contractors look for consistent regional grades that reduce on-site adjustments.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

For driveways consider strength, drainage, and how the material compacts under traffic. Coarse, well-draining materials with a stable base are common choices in Marietta, while finer materials are often used as top dressings; think about load, slope, and maintenance needs. Use the Hello Gravel calculator to estimate quantities and discuss options with our team if you need contractor-grade quantities or long-term durability guidance.
Freeze-thaw cycles and heavy spring rains in West Ohio can move fine materials and create frost heave in poorly prepared areas. Choose materials and installation methods that promote drainage and resist settling, and plan for thicker base layers or geotextile in low spots. Seasonal timing matters too: fall and late spring are often best for major earthwork and compaction.
Typical quantities vary by project size and depth: a small driveway patch or garden bed repair may need 1 to 5 cubic yards, a full one-car driveway (4 inches depth) is roughly 3 to 6 cubic yards, and larger two-car driveways or full replacements often need 6 to 20+ cubic yards. Patios and walkways commonly require 2 to 8 cubic yards depending on size and base depth. Use the Hello Gravel material calculator or call our team with project dimensions for a tailored estimate.
Permitting and setback rules can vary by city and county; some driveway approaches or changes to curb cuts may require city approval. Contact Marietta city planning or Washington County building office to confirm requirements before you order materials. Hello Gravel does not handle permits, so check local rules if your project involves grading, new curb cuts, or significant earthmoving.
Customers across Marietta — including Marietta Heights, Harmar, downtown, and outer residential areas — request deliveries. Drivers generally place material at the most accessible and safe location, such as the driveway, side yard, or curb, but placement depends on access, street width, and obstacles. Add placement details in Order Notes and mark any hazards so drivers can best assess delivery when they arrive.
Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum orders on our platform start at 3 tons, and delivery is handled by local contracted trucking companies. Delivery fees vary by zip code and local supply; check your zip code on our site for exact pricing and available dates.
For drainage and erosion control prioritize coarser, well-graded materials and good grading to move water away from structures. Combine appropriate material selection with slope correction, edge restraints, and, where needed, a geotextile fabric to separate soils and improve stability. If you have a steep site or recurring runoff issues, consult a local contractor or our team for site-specific recommendations.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this service is not guaranteed and depends on safety, access, and load type. Request spreading at checkout and prepare the site to make spreading safer and more likely, for example by clearing obstructions and marking the target area. If spreading is critical, plan to hire local labor or a contractor for guaranteed spreading and finishing work.
Materials are sourced regionally, so color, texture, and gradation can vary based on local geology and the supplier. Photos are representative and may not exactly match what is delivered to Marietta, OH; you can add color or texture preferences in Order Notes. If you have concerns after delivery, contact customer service and we will work with you and the supplier to address the issue.
Contact our team as soon as possible — changes are easiest before the order is processed and a truck is dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications or cancellations, but once materials are loaded or scheduled with a hauler, changes may be limited. Call 855-241-8884 or text 844-407-3734 for fastest help.

Clear the intended drop area of vehicles, toys, and fragile landscaping, and mark underground utilities or sprinkler heads. Make sure there is safe truck access with adequate turning room and that low-hanging wires or overhangs are noted in Order Notes. Preparing the site helps reduce delays and improves the chance drivers can place material where you want it.
