Local Insights
Holland is a community of 14,700 residents experiencing steady expansion that translates directly into construction and landscaping demand. A 2.33% annually growth rate means more homeowners are investing in outdoor upgrades, driveway repairs, yard regrading, and small-scale additions — projects that all rely on dependable bulk materials. Holland's climate and geography—hardiness zone 8b with 228 sunny days per year and 33.00 inches of annual rainfall—support a long outdoor season but also require balanced choices: materials that promote drainage during moderate storms, resist unwanted settling during dry spells, and support plantings through warm growing periods. For homeowners, that means selecting the right mix of aggregates, topsoil, sand, and mulch based on permeability, compaction resistance, and local aesthetic preferences. Quality, locally sourced bulk materials reduce callbacks and rework in this environment and help projects finish on time and on budget.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching function to material: think about drainage, load-bearing needs, and finish appearance. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone each perform differently for driveways, planting beds, or walkways, and Holland’s seasonal freeze-thaw cycles make drainage and compaction important. Use our material quiz or contact our team for a recommendation based on your project size and desired look.
Holland experiences freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal precipitation that can cause settling and frost heave, so choose materials that drain well and compact reliably. Local soils in West Ohio often include clay or loam, which affects how much base or drainage material you need beneath surfaces. When in doubt, plan for extra drainage and slightly deeper, well-compacted base layers.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the project in feet, multiply to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. For quick help, use Hello Gravel’s material calculator or give us the project dimensions and planned depth; we can estimate tons and cubic yards for gravel, sand, dirt, and stone. Add a 5–10% overage for compaction and waste on irregular areas.
Our standard delivery window is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST with an additional fee. Schedule your preferred date at checkout, but allow extra time during busy landscaping seasons or before winter. We will confirm the delivery window once a hauler is assigned.
Truck access depends on gate width, overhead lines, driveway strength, and local road rules; tri-axle dump trucks are commonly used and need room to maneuver. Note any access issues in Order Notes and send photos if possible so we can alert the hauler. If access is limited, we can discuss alternative drop points or smaller trucks, subject to availability and fee.
Small landscaping deliveries often do not require permits, but larger fills or changes that affect drainage, property lines, or wetlands may need local approvals. Permit rules vary by township and county in West Ohio, so check with Holland’s zoning or building department for large-volume projects. If you’re unsure, contact our team and we can point you toward local resources.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout. Spreading depends on site conditions, safety, and hauler policy, and Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading services. For guaranteed spreading, consider hiring a local landscaper or arranging separate spreading services.
Minimum orders start at 3 tons, and delivery charges vary by zip code, haul distance, and order size; many customers in our network receive free delivery. Exact pricing and any additional fees appear in checkout before you pay. For large contractor orders or recurring deliveries, contact our sales team for a custom quote.
Because we source regionally, texture, color, and size can vary naturally, and images are for reference only. If the material differs materially from what you expected, contact customer service promptly and include photos so we can work with the supplier to resolve the issue. We will follow our issue-resolution process and advise on next steps.
Pick materials that promote infiltration and resist movement under water flow; mixtures of coarse material for drainage plus heavier material for stability often work best. Incorporate proper grading, fabric, and edging as needed, and consider local rainfall patterns in Holland when sizing drainage. If unsure, ask our team for recommendations that suit your slope and planting plans.
Yes; contractors can place large single orders or set up repeat deliveries. For frequent or high-volume needs, contact our sales team to discuss scheduling preferences, account options, and pricing. We can coordinate with local suppliers and haulers to support project timelines.
Contact us as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; changes are easiest before an order is dispatched. Once a hauler has been assigned or a truck is en route, modifications may be limited and could incur fees. Our team will do its best to accommodate requests and explain any costs or timing impacts.
