Local Insights
Hillsboro, with a population of 19,580, sits in a region experiencing steady expansion that translates directly into rising demand for home improvement and small-scale construction projects. A 2.33% annual growth rate means more driveways, patios, garden renovations, and property upgrades as homeowners and contractors respond to new housing needs and resale pressures. Local climate—228 sunny days per year, 33.00 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b—shapes which bulk materials perform best: drainage-friendly gravels and sands for wetter months, durable soils and dirt blends for planting and grading, and UV-stable mulches and topcoats that resist fading. These conditions and the region’s development pace make it important to source reliable, locally suited aggregates and bulk supplies that match both performance needs and local geology.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by thinking about function: drainage, load-bearing, appearance, and maintenance. Because materials reflect local geology, compare options as a group (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) for durability, drainage, and finish rather than focusing on a brand name. If you need load-bearing surface for vehicles choose denser, compactable mixes; for planting beds or drainage, prioritize materials that allow water to pass through. Use our material quiz or contact our sales team if you want a quick recommendation for your specific project.
Our materials work for common homeowner and contractor projects like driveways, walkways, patios, drainage swales, raised beds, and general fill or grading. They also cover site prep for sheds, pool bases, and small commercial jobs in town. Tell us the project size and expected use, and we can suggest a material profile and approximate quantity. For larger or specialized civil work, discuss specs with a contractor or our sales team.
Typical estimates: small garden beds and patios often need 1 to 3 tons, single-car driveways 5 to 20 tons, and larger driveways or landscaping up to 50 tons or more. One cubic yard of aggregate commonly weighs about 1.2 to 1.6 tons depending on moisture and material u002du002d use 1.4 tons/yd3 as a practical average. Our online calculator can convert your measurements into tons or cubic yards and our team can help refine the estimate for Hillsboro's soils and compaction needs.
Yes. Hillsboro experiences freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and spring rains that can affect deliveries and material performance. Heavy rain or frozen ground can delay deliveries or spreading and may affect compaction and grading quality; schedule major installs for drier months when possible. We recommend ordering early in the season and allowing buffer days during late fall and winter for weather-related delays.
Materials are sourced locally, so texture, color, and exact particle sizes may vary based on local geology. This regional variation is normal and does not typically affect function, but if color or texture matters for a finished project, note your preference in Order Notes or request photos from suppliers. We recommend ordering a small sample or talking to our sales team before placing a large order if appearance is critical.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days for processing and scheduling. Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, but availability depends on local supplier schedules. Deliveries are made by contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks) and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion if requested at checkout; this service is not guaranteed.
Minimum orders start at 3 tons, and pricing can be influenced by local supplier rates and hauling distance. Small-town orders may see different freight charges than urban areas, but our platform provides transparent pricing before you confirm. For larger projects ask about volume discounts or bulk pricing options when you request a quote.
Drivers will make the best effort to place material in safe and accessible locations, but placement depends on truck access, property layout, and safety considerations. If you need closer placement, request tailgate spreading at checkout and note access limitations; the driver will assess feasibility on arrival. For precise spreading, consider hiring a local landscaper or equipment operator after delivery.
Hillsboro's local soils and terrain can include clay pans and low spots that hold water, so prioritize materials and mixes that promote drainage where needed. For sloped sites, use materials that resist erosion and compact well at grade transitions; for low-lying areas, plan for sub-base and drainage features before topping with surface aggregate. If you have known drainage problems, include that information when ordering so we can recommend appropriate material profiles.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify an order; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed and dispatched. We will work with local suppliers and haulers to update schedules, but not all changes are possible once a truck is assigned. For cancellations or issues with delivery, reach out promptly and refer to our customer service and refund policy for next steps.
Plan for multiple deliveries spaced to allow for grading, compaction, and weather recovery; standard scheduling requires at least 2+ business days between order and delivery. Coordinate with your contractor to set delivery windows and consider ordering material in staged quantities to avoid on-site storage issues. For time-sensitive projects, ask about next-day delivery options and confirm availability with our sales team.
