Local Insights
Camden has a city population of 4,930 and sits within a rapidly growing region — the surrounding metro area supports a population of 2.6+ million and is expanding at about 2.33% annually. That steady growth translates into more home renovations, new landscaping projects, driveway repairs, and small-scale construction as homeowners update properties and add outdoor living spaces. With 228 sunny days per year and annual rainfall around 33.00 inches in a hardiness zone of 8b, local projects must balance sun exposure with periodic rain: materials need to resist UV fade, shed water effectively, and perform in both wet and dry cycles. For homeowners that means choosing the right bulk materials — from sand and topsoil to various aggregates and mulch — to ensure proper drainage, stable bases, and long-lasting plant beds across Camden's mix of lawns, patios, and pathways.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Local homeowners and contractors commonly order bulk materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates for driveways, base layers, garden beds, drainage projects, and grading. Material types and appearance vary by local sourcing, so expect regional differences in color and texture.
Choose materials that compact well and allow proper drainage to reduce frost heave and settling; many projects use a layered approach with a stable base and a top material suited to traffic and appearance. Consider local climate, load requirements, and maintenance needs, and ask our team for guidance based on the project size and site conditions.
Yes. Winter freeze, spring thaw and heavy rains can make sites muddy or frozen, which affects truck access and compaction. Plan deliveries for drier windows, order ahead during busy spring and fall seasons, and expect possible delays or extra fees for next-day or winter-time service.
Rules vary by neighborhood and property type; some HOAs and local ordinances regulate driveway materials, curb cuts, or visible landscaping. Check your HOA covenants and contact Camden city or county offices for permit requirements before ordering, and let our team know about any restrictions so we can help avoid surprises.
Deliveries are typically made with tri-axle dump trucks and Hello Gravel requires a minimum order (usually 3 tons). Site access, driveway width, overhead lines, and turn radius affect where drivers can dump; drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but services are not guaranteed.
Measure the length, width and desired depth of your area, then use a material calculator to convert cubic feet to cubic yards and tons. As a rule, add 5-10% extra for compaction and waste, and contact our team for help if your site has slopes, terraces or irregular shapes.
Properties with poor slope, standing water, or clay soils need materials and profiles that improve drainage and prevent pooling. Choose aggregates that promote infiltration or include proper base and grading to direct water away from structures, and consider professional grading if erosion or standing water are present.
Contractors compare infiltration capacity, load requirements, maintenance, and local climate impacts when choosing materials. Permeable options may help with stormwater management but need the right subgrade, while more impermeable choices can be lower maintenance for driveways; cost, longevity and local code requirements all factor into the decision.

DIY-friendly projects include small garden beds, pathways, and short mulching or topdressing jobs; larger or structural projects like full driveways, major grading, or complex drainage usually need a contractor. Order materials at least several days to a few weeks in advance depending on season and project size, and allow extra lead time for contractor scheduling and permit needs.
