Local Insights
Wimbledon has a city population of 410, situated within a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million. With a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually, local construction and landscaping demand is gradual and predictable — more renovation and incremental development than rapid building booms. Wimbledon sits in hardiness zone 8b, enjoys roughly 152 sunny days per year, and receives about 33.50 inches of annual rainfall; those conditions support hardy plantings but also mean projects must account for both seasonal wetness and bright sun. For homeowners that translates to practical needs: durable base materials for driveways and paths, well-draining backfill around foundations, erosion-control mixes for sloped yards, and top dressings that tolerate heat and periodic rain. Choosing quality bulk materials like aggregate, sand, dirt, and mulch helps reduce maintenance and improves long-term performance in this local climate.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching the material to use, traffic, and drainage needs: driveways need durable, compactable materials while walkways may prioritize a smooth, stable surface. Consider local climate—freeze-thaw cycles in West North Dakota affect settling and compaction—and pick materials that handle frost and snow‑plow wear. Use Hello Gravel’s material calculator and our team for guidance, and add appearance or color preferences in your order notes.
Choose aggregates with good permeability and size gradation for drainage and erosion control; well-graded mixes and larger stone in channels work better on slopes. Take into account seasonal runoff and spring thaw, and pair materials with proper grading, geotextile fabric, or vegetation to reduce erosion. Because local geology varies, regional sourcing means the exact texture and color may differ from images.
Calculate by area and depth: measure square feet, decide depth in inches, then use a cubic yard calculator to convert to tons. For example, a 10x10 patio at 2 inches deep is about 0.6 cubic yards (roughly 0.8–1 ton depending on material density). Use our online calculator or contact our team for a quick estimate tailored to the material you choose.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum orders start at about 3 tons, and deliveries are made by local dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks). Request a preferred delivery date at checkout and note that drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but this is not guaranteed.
Ensure the drop zone is accessible for a tri-axle dump truck: clear overhead wires, remove parked cars, and check for narrow or soft driveways that might not support heavy trucks. Mark the exact drop spot and notify us of any tight turns, gates, or permits required for rural roads. Proper planning avoids extra fees or a failed delivery attempt.
Freeze-thaw cycles and spring thaw in West North Dakota can cause materials to shift, settle, or become harder to work with when wet. Store materials on a firm, level surface and cover them if rain or snow is expected; avoid storing where runoff will wash them away. For winter projects consider materials and installation timing that minimize frost‑heave risk.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; it’s easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests but changes may be limited once a supplier or truck is assigned, and fees may apply. For timing or delivery adjustments, call or text the Hello Gravel team promptly.
Prices depend on material type, local availability, distance from the supplier, delivery access, and volume ordered—larger orders typically have a lower per‑ton price. Seasonal demand and optional services (like next-day delivery or spreading) also affect cost. Use our site to get transparent pricing for your zip code and compare quantities to find the best value.
Popular projects include driveways, walkways, patios, garden beds, drainage swales, backfill, and erosion control. Choose materials based on function—structural projects need compactable aggregates while decorative areas can prioritize color and texture—and consider maintenance, drainage, and snow-plow resistance. Our project guides and sales team can help match material choices to your specific job and budget.
Remember that materials are regionally sourced, so color and texture can vary. Add preferences in your order notes, ask for local supplier photos if available, or request a small sample before a large order. If the delivery doesn’t meet expectations, contact customer service promptly so we can work to resolve the issue.
