Local Insights
With a city population of 1,010 and located within a broader metro area of 2.5+ million, Towner is a small but steadily growing community—its 0.40% annually growth rate points to gradual, predictable demand for repairs, yard upgrades, and modest new construction rather than sudden booms. The local climate (hardiness zone 8b, about 152/year sunny days and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall) creates a mix of needs: enough permeability for heavy rains, erosion control on open lots, and materials that support drought-tolerant plantings and frost-resistant foundations. Homeowners in Towner are looking for versatile bulk supplies—dirt for grading, sand for drainage mixes and leveling, aggregates for driveways, and organic mulches for planting beds—that perform consistently across seasons. In this setting, choosing quality, regionally sourced bulk materials matters because local geology and weather influence compaction, drainage, and longevity; thoughtful choices at the start of a project often reduce maintenance and expense later.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Delivery costs in rural West North Dakota towns like Towner vary with distance from the supplier, load size, and road access. Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum order and shows clear pricing up front; some orders may include a delivery fee for longer hauls while other areas qualify for free delivery. Request a quote through the site to see exact costs for your zip code and schedule.
In freeze-thaw climates you want materials that shed water and compact well to limit heaving and erosion. Choose well-draining aggregates and firm base layers; top layers should resist rutting and washout. Your choice may depend on whether you need a stable base, drainage layer, or surface finish, so ask our team for guidance based on your project and local conditions.
Typical projects include driveway repairs, patio bases, garden beds, and small grading or fill work. Quantities vary by project: a short residential driveway may start around 10-20 tons, a small patio or walkway often needs 3-8 tons, and top dressing or garden fill can be done in 3-ton increments. Use our material calculator or contact the sales team with project dimensions to get a more accurate estimate.
Delivery radius depends on local supplier networks, but haulers serving Towner commonly operate across neighboring zip codes and rural routes in West North Dakota. Hello Gravel connects you with nearby suppliers and will show available delivery options for your zip code during checkout. If your location is remote, expect longer lead times or modest delivery fees due to distance.
Spring through early fall is the most convenient time for deliveries and installation because sites are less likely to be frozen and access is easier. Winter deliveries may still be possible but can be affected by frozen ground, snow, and limited hauling access, which can also affect spreading work. Schedule early and consider weather and ground conditions when picking a delivery date.
Permit requirements vary by municipality, neighborhood, and HOA rules; small homeowner deliveries often need no permit, but large grading, fill, or changes to driveways and drainage might. Check with Towner city offices or your HOA about driveway changes, road hauling restrictions, and any required permits before ordering. If you have questions, our team can remind you to confirm local rules before delivery.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion if jobsite safety and equipment allow, but this is not guaranteed. You can request spreading at checkout; the driver will assess conditions on arrival and decide whether it can be done safely. If spreading is essential, plan to hire a local contractor or arrange for a dedicated spreading crew.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible to request changes; modifications are easiest before the order is dispatched from the supplier. We will do our best to accommodate changes, but adjustments may be limited once a truck is scheduled due to supplier and driver coordination. Review order confirmation emails for contact details and timing guidance.
Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, so texture, color, and aggregate makeup reflect local geology and natural variation. Photos are representative, but exact matches cannot be guaranteed. If color or texture are important, add details in Order Notes or request guidance from our team before placing your order.
