Local Insights
Medora is a small but connected community with a city population of 330 set inside a much larger regional economy (metro area population 2.5+ million). That steady, modest expansion—a growth rate of 0.40% annually—points to gradual but consistent demand for home upkeep, small-scale construction, and landscape projects rather than sudden booms. Local climate factors — a hardiness zone of 8b, about 152 sunny days per year, and 33.50 inches of annual rainfall — shape what materials work best here: homeowners need supplies that balance drainage and moisture retention, resist local wear, and simplify maintenance through seasonal cycles. In practice that translates into reliable bulk options for grading and drainage, top dressing and planting mixes, erosion-control blends, and durable surface aggregates suited to long-term use across yards, driveways, and foundation work.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose material based on the function you need (stability, drainage, or surface finish) and local conditions. Because we source regionally, consider how materials perform in West North Dakota weather and ask about compaction and thickness for load-bearing uses. Use our material calculator or contact the team for help matching a material to your project and budget.
Medora experiences freeze-thaw cycles that can heave or shift loose materials, so prioritize good drainage and a well-compacted base. Select materials that lock together and shed water, and allow for extra depth in frost-prone areas. Remember that regional sourcing means texture and color can vary, so plan for how the material will perform, not just how it looks.
Prices vary by material type, local supply, hauling distance, and season, so costs can differ substantially. For the most accurate price, use our online quote tool or request a quote for your zip code; we list transparent pricing and any delivery fees before you check out. We can also explain factors that drive price so you know what to expect.
Standard delivery is 2 or more business days after ordering, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Remote or seasonal conditions in West North Dakota can extend lead times, and you will receive a delivery confirmation with an estimated arrival window. If you have a tight schedule, contact our team when you order so we can prioritize your delivery where possible.
Permit requirements vary by project and location, so check with the City of Medora or Billings County for driveway permits, right-of-way rules, culvert requirements, and any local zoning or HOA restrictions. For large fill deliveries, local landfill or grading permits may apply. If you’re unsure, our team can point you to local offices to call before you order.
Late spring through early fall is the easiest time to deliver and install bulk materials because roads are clearer and the ground is less likely to be frozen. Winter deliveries are sometimes possible but depend on road conditions, site access, and local restrictions, and they may carry higher fees. Plan ahead for spring projects since thaw and wet conditions can also affect access and compaction.
Frequent mistakes include underestimating quantities, not accounting for compaction or waste, overlooking truck access and overhead obstructions, and assuming an exact color or texture match to photos. Also plan for drainage and base preparation—materials perform best when the site is graded and compacted correctly. Use our calculator and contact the team to avoid these issues.
Confirm a clear drop location, check for obstacles like low wires or weak driveways, and note any gates or narrow roads in your Order Notes. Our minimum order is 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks; tailgate spreading may be available at the driver’s discretion but is not guaranteed. If access is limited, contact us before ordering so we can find a supplier and hauler that can get to your site.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order; changes are easiest to make before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but modifications are subject to supplier and hauler timing and may not always be possible. See your order confirmation or contact customer service for next steps and options.
