Local Insights
Leroy (city population 952) is a small but stable community embedded in a larger regional economy (metro area population 2.5+ million). With an annual growth rate of 0.40% annually, demand for incremental home improvements and modest construction projects tends to be steady rather than boom-driven—think incremental driveway repairs, landscape upgrades, and small additions. Leroy's climate and geography—hardiness zone 8b with 152 sunny days per year and about 33.50 inches of annual precipitation—create a balance of sun and moisture that affects material choices. Homeowners here often prioritize materials that handle both drainage and moisture retention, resist washout during storms, and stand up to seasonal wear. That means buying quality bulk materials (gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, topsoil, and other aggregates) matters: properly graded, locally sourced materials reduce settling, improve drainage, and support long-term plant and pavement performance in this regional setting.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and haulers in the Leroy area rather than operating its own fleet. Suppliers vary by zip code and season; check availability for your zip code to see which local companies can deliver gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates.
Minimum orders are commonly around 3 tons, and many areas offer free standard delivery for typical jobs, though fees can apply for long drives or small orders. Hello Gravel shows upfront pricing during checkout so you can see any delivery charges before you confirm.
Match material size and type to the project: denser, angular materials are best for load-bearing uses like driveways, while finer, loose materials suit garden beds or leveling. Use the material calculator or contact our team for guidance based on project size, slope, and drainage needs.
Freeze-thaw cycles in this region can cause settling, heaving, and compaction changes over time, especially for loose fines or poorly compacted layers. Good base preparation, proper drainage, and choosing materials suited for your project's load and exposure will reduce long-term movement and maintenance needs.
Local rules and permitting depend on the municipality and county; road approaches, curb cuts, and right-of-way work often require permits or DOT approval. Check with Leroy city offices or Steele County before delivery if your project affects public roads, ditches, or stormwater flow.
The most reliable window for outdoor work and material delivery is typically late spring through early fall after spring thaw, when ground is stable and snow-free. Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST, but winter weather can delay scheduling and spread services.
Typical orders vary: a small garden bed or leveling job might be 1 to 3 cubic yards, a patio base 3 to 6 cubic yards, and a single-car driveway resurfacing often needs 6 to 12 cubic yards. Use cubic yard and ton calculators or contact our team with project dimensions to get a precise estimate for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion and if conditions are safe, but this service is not guaranteed. Request spreading at checkout and note that final ability to spread depends on truck access, site conditions, and driver judgment.
