Local Insights
Burleigh County's city population is 98,000 and it sits within a metro area of 2.4+ million, growing at 1.32% annually. That steady growth translates into sustained demand for residential upgrades, infill construction, and landscape improvements—projects that rely on predictable access to bulk materials. Local climate and geography shape material needs: in hardiness zone 8b with 228 sunny days per year and 33.50 inches of rain annually, homeowners face cycles of wet springs and drying summers that affect drainage, compaction, and surface wear. That mix makes it important to have a range of options—base aggregates for stable foundations, well-graded sands and soils for compaction and planting beds, and surface-facing materials for erosion control and low-maintenance finishes. For Burleigh County projects, quality local materials reduce maintenance, improve performance across seasons, and help properties hold value as the area continues to grow.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Burleigh County commonly order bulk materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, stone for base layers, surfacing, and yard work. Choose materials based on function: structural base, drainage layer, or finished surface. Our material quiz and product pages can help match your project needs to a suitable mix.
Delivery cost depends on material type, quantity, distance from the local source and site access; gravel, sand, dirt, stone hauled from closer suppliers generally costs less. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing during checkout and connects you with local haulers; get an exact quote by entering your zip code and order details. Remember minimum orders start at 3 tons and special delivery services may add fees.
For North Dakota’s freeze-thaw cycles, choose materials that compact well and shed water, such as well-graded base mixes with a clean surface layer — think gravel, sand, dirt, stone used in layered systems. Proper drainage and a compacted base reduce frost heave more than any single product. Talk with our team about local options that reflect Burleigh County geology.
The preferred window for major deliveries and installation is late spring through early fall when ground is not frozen and access is easier, but deliveries are available year-round. Expect standard delivery in 2+ business days and next-day options for orders placed before noon CST with an added fee. Plan around spring thaw and heavy winter freeze to avoid mud and compaction issues.
Yes — Hello Gravel partners with local suppliers and contracted haulers who deliver across Burleigh County, including many rural and municipal addresses, carrying gravel, sand, dirt, stone. Access limitations like narrow roads, low-clearance bridges, or long driveways can affect delivery and may incur extra charges, so note site details at checkout. If you have questions about access, contact our team before ordering.
A rough estimate: a 1-car driveway (about 12 ft by 50 ft) at 3 to 4 inches depth requires roughly 5 to 7 cubic yards (about 7 to 10 tons), while a 2-car drive (about 20 ft by 50 ft) at the same depth needs roughly 9 to 12 cubic yards (about 13 to 18 tons). These ranges vary with material density and desired depth, so use our material calculator or contact our team for a site-specific estimate. We require a 3-ton minimum order.
Local rules can affect driveway ties, grading, erosion control, and stormwater management, especially inside city limits or within HOAs; Burleigh County and municipalities may require permits for new driveway approaches or significant grading. Hello Gravel can deliver gravel, sand, dirt, stone but does not handle permits, so check with your city or county planning department before ordering. Your contractor can also advise on local compliance.
Regional sourcing matters: materials pulled from nearby quarries or pits mean lower haul costs and quicker availability, while long hauls raise price and delivery time for gravel, sand, dirt, stone. Seasonal quarry schedules and local demand can temporarily affect availability or color/texture. Hello Gravel leverages local suppliers to help keep costs and delivery times reasonable.
For erosion control and drainage, choose coarser, free-draining layers in critical areas and use finer materials for grading transitions — gravel, sand, dirt, stone combined with proper grading work well. Complement materials with swales, berms, or geotextile fabric where needed to stabilize slopes and filter runoff. If uncertain, our team or a landscape contractor can recommend the right combination for your site.
Contractors in the area typically recommend a layered approach: a compacted structural base, a drainage layer if needed, and an appropriate surface layer of gravel, sand, dirt, stone based on traffic and drainage needs. They also stress proper compaction, slope for runoff, and using locally sourced materials to reduce costs. Use Hello Gravel to order the quantities contractors request and schedule delivery to meet your timeline.
Deliveries in Burleigh County are made by contracted dump-truck fleets (usually tri-axle) and you can choose a delivery date during checkout; drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but it is not guaranteed. Provide clear drop location instructions and note any site obstructions, low wires, or tight turns to avoid delays or additional charges. If you need help calculating quantities or planning placement, call our team for guidance.
