Local Insights
South Stockton is a small community of 750 residents within a larger metro region of 2.3+ million people. With a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually, development here is gradual but consistent—meaning homeowners and local contractors can expect ongoing, modest demand for repair, yard upgrades, and small-scale construction projects rather than a building boom. The local climate—about 228 sunny days a year and 33.50 inches of rainfall, falling in hardiness zone 8b—creates balanced needs: materials must manage occasional heavy rain, shed water effectively, and also perform well during long, dry stretches. That combination drives interest in a range of bulk supplies, from topsoil and mulch for planting to sand, gravel, and stone for drainage and hardscaping. For South Stockton residents, reliable, locally sourced aggregates and timely delivery matter because they reduce rework, ensure proper drainage, and help projects match the local growing season and weather patterns.

Hello Gravel found me while I was looking for dirt to fill a hole that opened up in my back yard. I originally searched on DirtMatch and when I spoke with Chuck I was originally quoted for 1 ton of dirt. After showing pictures it turned out I needed less than half of that. Chuck talked me through the process of picking the right soil, how to fill the hole, and where to get what I needed from the Lowes local to me. Uploaded pictures of how we found it, after we dug out all the overhang and cleaned it out, and after we filled it in. I saved $400 by talking with Chuck and it only took like 3 hours. I wasn't even an official customer and Chuck took the time to help me with the hole in my yard. And on a weekend no less!!! What I'm saying is if you're looking for honest, kind, caring people to help you with your job. From my experience, this is the place.

Delivery cost depends on project size, distance from local suppliers, material type, and access to your property. Hello Gravel requires a minimum order of 3 tons and typically uses tri-axle dump trucks, and many areas have free standard delivery while next-day delivery may carry an extra fee. For an accurate price, get a quote using your zip code and preferred delivery date.
Contractors in the area choose materials based on drainage, compaction needs, and freeze-thaw durability, so a layered approach (stable base plus a top layer) is common. Consider the performance of gravel, sand, dirt, stone as a group for base or surface work, and ask suppliers about local variations that handle New York winters and spring thaw. If unsure, use Hello Gravel's material quiz or call the sales team for guidance.
Yes. Freeze-thaw cycles and snow season can limit installation options because frozen ground is harder to grade and compact, and spreading may be unsafe in icy conditions. Deliveries are available year-round but scheduling earlier in spring or summer often gives better conditions for finishing work; request next-day delivery only if you meet the cutoff and can accept potential weather delays.
Measure the project area (length x width) and decide on depth, then convert cubic feet to cubic yards and to tons — different materials have different densities. Hello Gravel provides an online material calculator and recommends ordering a bit extra for compaction, grade corrections, and waste; remember the minimum order is 3 tons.
Suppliers deliver by contracted dump trucks; drivers may be able to provide tailgate spreading at their discretion if it can be done safely. You can request spreading at checkout, but Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading services, so arrange local labor if you need full on-site spreading or grading.
Small residential deliveries usually do not require a permit, but driveway construction, curb cuts, large commercial loads, or work in historic or protected areas may need local approvals. Check with South Stockton or county public works before starting a project, especially if deliveries will use public roads or block sidewalks.
Choose materials that promote permeability on slopes and surfaces where you want water to infiltrate, and denser, well-graded materials where you need structural support. Consider the local soil, slope, and plantings when selecting from gravel, sand, dirt, stone as a group, and consult suppliers about mixes that resist washout and handle freeze-thaw cycles.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can select your preferred delivery date during checkout, and Hello Gravel will confirm details and coordinate with local haulers before dispatch.
Clear a safe, accessible drop zone free of low branches, vehicles, and fragile landscaping, and mark any underground utilities or sprinkler systems. Verify any weight or road restrictions with local authorities, communicate special instructions in Order Notes, and be ready for the driver to assess safety on arrival since spreading is not guaranteed.
Materials are delivered by dump truck directly to your driveway or job site, placed exactly where you need them.
We work with a network of vetted partner haulers in your area. Every driver meets our quality and safety standards, regardless of the truck branding.
Our pricing is competitive with local quarries and landscape supply yards, and delivery is included. No trips to the store, no rental trucks, no loading bags yourself.
