Local Insights
Union is a community of 52,890 residents experiencing steady growth at about 1.20% annually. That kind of measured expansion usually means a steady increase in home improvement, infill construction, and landscaping projects rather than a sudden building boom — homeowners are updating yards, adding hardscapes, and repairing driveways as neighborhoods evolve. With 228 sunny days a year and moderate annual rainfall of 34.32 inches in hardiness zone 8b, local projects need materials that perform through warm, sun‑forward seasons and periodic wet periods. Quality bulk materials—clean fill for grading, well‑graded aggregates for bases, engineered soils for planting and mulches for moisture retention—help ensure long‑term performance in this climate and support the kinds of outdoor upgrades Union homeowners pursue.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Delivery cost depends on material type, quantity, and distance from the local supplier. Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum and often includes free standard delivery for many orders; next-day delivery and small-load or hard-access fees may add to the price. Your final price is shown at checkout so you can compare materials and delivery options before you buy.
Winter weather, freeze-thaw cycles, and snow events can delay deliveries and make drop locations muddy or frozen. Schedule deliveries for milder weather when possible, avoid storm days, and allow extra lead time in winter or spring; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Check local road and snow-removal conditions on the delivery day to reduce complications.
Many Union neighborhoods have local rules, HOA covenants, or municipal permit requirements for curb cuts, driveway work, or long-term material storage on public streets. Check with Union Township and your HOA before scheduling a large drop; we recommend getting any required permits or approvals to avoid fines or work delays. If you need help, contact our team before ordering so we can note delivery details for the hauler.
Local soils and drainage influence whether you need more permeable base layers or improved grading before topping with aggregate. In areas with heavier, clay-like soils or poor drainage, choose materials and installation methods that improve runoff and load-bearing, such as a compacted base and a permeable surface. If you are unsure, order a small test amount or consult a local contractor to match materials to site conditions.
Typical residential jobs include garden beds, small walkways, and single-car driveways; quantities vary by project size and material depth. As a rough guide: garden beds often need 1-3 tons, walkways 3-6 tons, and small driveways 6-12 tons, but exact amounts depend on the coverage area and depth you require. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our sales team for a site-specific estimate.
Yes—Hello Gravel connects customers with trusted local suppliers and trucking partners in the West New Jersey metro, so you get regionally sourced materials and professional delivery. We do not directly perform installation, so for installation or full-service jobs check supplier reviews, ask for references, and confirm licenses and insurance with any contractor you hire. Our team can recommend common project workflows and typical materials used locally.
Budget depends on material choice, quantity, and whether you pay for installation. For small DIY landscape projects, homeowners often spend a few hundred to a couple thousand dollars for materials and standard delivery; a contractor-installed small driveway or major repair can range higher depending on labor, grading, and drainage work. Request a quote through Hello Gravel and get contractor bids to compare total project costs.
Yes—many Union streets have narrow widths, parked cars, overhead wires, or weight limits that affect where a truck can safely deliver. Hello Gravel uses tri-axle dump trucks for most deliveries, but if access is tight the hauler may need to use a smaller truck or drop material at the curb for you to move. Add delivery notes at checkout and notify us of tight driveways, stairs, or gates so we can coordinate the best drop plan.
Deicing salts can accelerate breakdown of some aggregates, harm nearby plants, and change surface color over time. If your project will be exposed to frequent salting, choose materials and edging that tolerate freeze-thaw and consider salt-tolerant landscaping choices and regular maintenance. Proper drainage and periodic replenishment of surface material will extend the life of your installation.
Expect a minimum order of 3 tons and standard delivery lead time of 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Delivery fees, return policies, and exact material specs are listed on the product page and your order confirmation; tailgate spreading may be available at the driver's discretion but is not guaranteed. Contact our customer service promptly if you need to change an order or have an issue after delivery.
