Local Insights
New Vernon is a small but active community with a city population of 1,080 and ties to a larger metro region of 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.20% annually translates into consistent demand for home improvements, landscaping updates, and modest new construction rather than large-scale development. Local climate and geography — including 228/year sunny days, 34.32 inches of annual rainfall, and hardiness zone 8b — shape the kinds of materials homeowners need: everything from drainage-friendly base layers and street-edge aggregates to planting mixes and erosion-control supplies. In practice this means projects often prioritize reliable drainage, durable surfacing for wet seasons, and materials that support plantings suited to a milder winter environment. Quality bulk materials matter here because regional sourcing and correct sizing ensure long-term performance for driveways, beds, patios, and grading work across changing seasonal conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by describing how the area will be used and the performance you need (drainage, load-bearing, appearance, or erosion control). Consider local climate and maintenance needs, then match those needs to a material type—gravel, sand, dirt, stone—as a group. Use our material calculator or contact our team for guidance if you are unsure.
Project needs vary: driveways usually require stable, load-bearing aggregates; patios and paver bases need a compactable base and finer bedding material; pathways favor a comfortable, well-draining surface; erosion control and grading often call for heavier or larger-grade stone and engineered fills. Because New Vernon experiences freeze-thaw cycles, prioritize materials and compaction methods that resist frost heave and encourage drainage.
Freeze-thaw cycles in West New Jersey mean you should avoid major earthwork or surface installations when the ground is frozen or saturated. Choose materials that shed water and compact well to reduce frost heave, and schedule deliveries and installation in drier months whenever possible. Good drainage design is especially important for long-term performance.
Our minimum order is 3 tons. Standard delivery typically takes 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Use the checkout calendar to choose your preferred delivery date and check zip code availability.
Delivery fees depend on distance from local suppliers and the site access requirements. Many areas have free delivery, while longer hauls or restricted-access sites may incur additional charges. Get a live quote at checkout or contact our team for an estimate.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion. You can request spreading at checkout, but the driver will assess safety and site conditions when they arrive and there are no guarantees of this service. If spreading is essential, plan for a separate spreading crew or ask for recommendations.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide the required depth, then convert that volume to cubic yards (27 cubic feet = 1 cubic yard). Material weight varies by type, so use our online material calculator or contact our team for a tons estimate and a recommended safety margin. We can also help convert your numbers into the minimum order increments we deliver.
Some jobs may require local permits or HOA approval, especially for visible work like driveway changes, retaining walls, or major grading. Check with the Mendham Township offices and your HOA before ordering to confirm any restrictions on storage, truck access, or visible material piles. If you need documentation for permits, our team can help provide delivery details.
Materials reflect local geology, so color, texture, and particle shape can vary from photos or samples. Expect natural variation and consider ordering a small sample or adding preferences in the Order Notes at checkout. Our descriptions and the material quiz help match typical regional options to your needs.
Contractors often set accounts with scheduled drop-off windows, order larger quantities, and coordinate multiple deliveries. Homeowners can use the online ordering flow for single deliveries and choose a delivery date in the checkout calendar. If you have a complex project, contact our sales team to coordinate timing, access, and staging.
Contact our team as soon as possible; changes are easiest before the order is dispatched to the supplier or hauler. We will do our best to accommodate requests but cannot guarantee all changes after processing. For time-sensitive changes, call the phone number provided in your confirmation.
If the material looks different or the delivered amount seems incorrect, contact customer service promptly and provide photos and your delivery details. We will work with the local supplier and hauler to resolve issues according to our policies. See our refund policy for more information on possible remedies.
