Local Insights
Fallon Station has a city population of 8,600 and sits within a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million, a combination that points to steady, measured development rather than rapid expansion. A growth rate of 0.40% annually suggests incremental demand for new construction, remodels, and lot improvements—projects that typically rely on reliable deliveries of bulk materials rather than large-scale, continuous earthmoving. Local climate factors—228 sunny days per year, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b—shape what materials perform best here: homeowners and contractors look for aggregates and soils that balance sun and heat exposure with the need for good drainage during episodic rains. That mix of sunshine and seasonal moisture makes versatile materials like well-graded gravel, stable base mixes, durable mulches, and moisture-retentive soils especially valuable for patios, pathways, water-wise plantings, and erosion control. Because Fallon Station combines long sunny stretches with meaningful annual precipitation, material selection needs to account for both drying and drainage. Soils and regional geology affect compaction, erosion risk, and nutrient availability, so choosing the right bulk supplies—blends for planting beds, well-draining fill for slopes, and angular base material for paving—can reduce maintenance and extend the life of landscaping and hardscape work. For homeowners, that means prioritizing permeability on slopes, UV-stable surface materials for exposed areas, and soil mixes that support plants rated for zone 8b. Hello Gravel helps by connecting you with local suppliers who understand these local conditions, offering calculators and guidance to size orders correctly, and coordinating delivery so the right materials arrive when your project needs them.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Price per ton varies by material type, local supplier rates, and delivery distance. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone are regionally sourced so color and price reflect West Nevada availability; use our website or request a quote for exact delivered pricing to 89406. Delivery fees or free-delivery promotions may also affect the final price.
Cost depends on the material chosen, depth of coverage, and whether you need spreading or compaction. A 20x20 area (400 sq ft) will typically need about 3 tons at 2u0022 depth or about 5 tons at 3u0022 depth, but weights vary by material so get a quote for exact tons and delivered price. Installation labor or contractor fees are extra and vary by local rates.
Ton and cost estimates depend on your driveway width and desired depth. As an example, a 1,000 ft long by 10 ft wide driveway is 10,000 sq ft; at 3u0022 depth that equals roughly 90-95 cubic yards, or about 110-140 tons depending on material density. Use our online calculator or contact our team with your specific dimensions to get a tailored estimate.
For small amounts, pickup can save money; for medium to large jobs, bulk delivery by dump truck is usually most cost-effective. Hiring a contractor adds labor and equipment costs but can save time and ensure proper compaction and grading for driveways or complex landscaping. Consider the minimum order (3 tons), access to your site, and whether you need spreading when choosing the method.
Coverage depends on depth and material density, but a common rule is one ton covers about 120-125 sq ft at 2u0022 depth and about 80-85 sq ft at 3u0022 depth. Use area x depth to calculate cubic yards and convert to tons (our online calculator does this automatically). Always round up and allow extra for settling and compaction.
Two inches may be enough for a light-use path or decorative topping, but most driveways benefit from 3-4 inches of surface material over a properly prepared base. Heavier vehicles, poor subgrade, or drainage issues usually require a thicker base and better compaction. When in doubt, plan for a deeper section and consult our team for recommendations based on your site.
Preparing a base and using geotextile fabric is usually recommended to prevent mixing, improve drainage, and reduce rutting. In many cases a compacted sub-base and a separation fabric give longer-lasting results than placing material directly on loose soil. Local soil conditions and intended use determine the best approach, so consider sending photos or requesting guidance when you order.
