Local Insights
Plattsmouth has a city population of 12,340 and sits within a broader metro area of 2.5+ million. With a steady growth rate of 0.40% annually, demand for home improvements and modest new construction tends to be consistent rather than boom-driven — that means steady projects like driveway repairs, patio installs, landscape refreshes, and incremental new builds. The local climate (hardiness zone 8b, 228 sunny days annually, and 34.25 inches of rain each year) favors both outdoor living projects and the need for reliable drainage solutions. Homeowners here benefit from quality bulk materials — from base soils and sand for proper grading to mulch and topsoil for planting beds and aggregates for stable driveways — because materials that perform well in this mix of sunny, sometimes wet conditions reduce maintenance and extend project life.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose a material based on the surface you want (smooth and stable vs. highly draining), the expected traffic, and local climate. In Plattsmouth's freeze-thaw conditions, select materials that compact well for vehicle use and provide good drainage. Use our material calculator or contact our team for help estimating depth and quantities for your project.
Cost depends on the material type, the amount you need, delivery distance, and access to your site. Seasonal demand and requested delivery speed (standard vs next-day) can also affect price. Ordering larger quantities and scheduling deliveries during normal business days usually helps reduce per-ton costs.
Spring through early fall is ideal for most outdoor projects in Plattsmouth because ground is easier to work and frozen conditions are less likely. Avoid deliveries on saturated or frozen ground when possible to prevent tracking and poor spreading. If you need winter delivery, plan carefully and be prepared for slower scheduling and potential access issues.
Dump trucks typically require a clear, level path and about 12 to 14 feet of width to back in or position for a drop. Note any overhead wires, low branches, steep grades, or tight turns in your order notes and at scheduling. Our drivers will assess safety on arrival, and tailgate spreading may be offered at their discretion but is not guaranteed.
Measure the area (length x width) and decide on the desired depth in inches, then use a material calculator to convert cubic feet to tons based on the material. Our website has a calculator and an aggregate quiz to help pick the right depth and product. If you prefer, contact our sales team with your dimensions and project type and we can provide an estimate.
Permit needs vary by project type and location; simple garden beds usually do not require permits, while driveways, grading changes, and work near public right-of-way may. Check with the City of Plattsmouth or Cass County zoning and public works offices for driveway or drainage permits and any setback rules. For HOA properties, review community guidelines before ordering materials.
Think about function first: choose draining materials for yards, French drains, or low-traffic paths, and choose compacting materials for driveways, bases, or load-bearing areas. Many projects use layered approaches—an aggregate base for stability topped with a finer surface for appearance or walking comfort. Ask our team for recommendations based on your specific use and local soil conditions.
Standard delivery is scheduled for 2+ business days with no extra fee, and next-day delivery is available if ordered before noon CST for an additional fee.
