Local Insights
Howells is a small but active community with a city population of 1,010 and ties to a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million. A modest growth rate of 0.40% annually means construction and landscaping demand is steady rather than volatile—home improvement projects and incremental development are more common than boom-scale building. The local climate—228 sunny days annually, an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, and hardiness zone 8b—favors outdoor work much of the year but creates specific material needs: aggregates and soils must handle both sun exposure and episodic moisture. Homeowners here tend to prioritize materials that improve drainage, stabilize driveways and walkways, and protect planting beds. Access to a variety of bulk materials—gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone—helps residents match products to tasks, minimize rework, and build longer-lasting landscapes and light-construction bases.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.
