Local Insights
Curtis is a small but active community (population 930) where steady, incremental growth is shaping local construction and landscaping needs. A growth rate of 0.40% annually indicates predictable, sustained demand for home improvements, infill projects, and routine maintenance rather than sudden surges—meaning homeowners and contractors both benefit from dependable supply chains and consistent material availability. The local climate—228 sunny days annually, 34.25 inches of rainfall per year, and hardiness zone 8b—creates a mix of dry, sun-exposed periods and moderate precipitation that influences which materials perform best. In this environment, homeowners prioritize materials that balance permeability and stability: soils and topdressing that support plants, aggregates that provide reliable compaction for driveways and patios, and mulches or groundcovers that stand up to UV and seasonal wetting. Quality bulk materials directly affect project longevity, plant health, and maintenance frequency in Curtis’s specific conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choosing the right material depends on load, drainage needs, and maintenance. For many projects in Curtis, homeowners and contractors consider options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone together as a system: a stable base, compacted base layer, and a wearing surface. Ask about local mixes and recommended depths so the material suits West Nebraska's freeze-thaw cycles and heavier vehicle use.
Match material to the function: durable, compacting materials for walkways and edging, looser materials for planting areas. Regional suppliers in Curtis often offer blends tailored to local soil and climate, so review appearance, drainage, and maintenance needs before ordering. Use samples or small test deliveries when color or texture matters.
Measure the area (length x width) and pick a target depth to estimate volume, then convert to tons using our calculator or guidance. Typical depths vary by project type (for example, walkways are shallower than driveways), so use conservative estimates and round up to allow for compaction and grading. Contact the team if you want help converting square feet and inches to tons for Curtis projects.
Delivery availability depends on your zip code, local suppliers, and haulers. We serve many rural areas around Curtis but require a minimum order (typically 3 tons) and schedule standard delivery in 2+ business days, with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks and may include optional tailgate spreading at the driver's discretion.
No two loads are identical. Because materials are regionally sourced, texture, color, and mix can vary with local geology and batch differences. If color or consistency is important, note preferences at checkout or request a small sample before placing a large order.
Clear and level the drop area, remove obstacles, and mark property lines or any sensitive areas to help the driver place the load safely. Ensure there is accessible space for a tri-axle dump truck and avoid soft or steep surfaces; the driver will assess access and may decline spreading for safety reasons. Have tools and helpers ready if you plan to move or spread material after delivery.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order. Changes are easier to accommodate before the order is dispatched; once a supplier or truck is scheduled, availability for changes may be limited. We will do our best to help but cannot guarantee all requests can be fulfilled.
Yes. Freeze-thaw cycles, wet springs, and seasonal work windows in West Nebraska can affect timing and how materials perform. Order early for busy seasons, choose materials suited for freeze-thaw conditions, and plan for storage or erosion control if you need to keep material on-site for a while.
They can. Some towns, counties, or homeowner associations have rules about driveway surfaces, visible landscaping material, or stormwater controls. Check local ordinances and your HOA guidelines before ordering to avoid rework or permit issues.
