Local Insights
Bassett has a city population of 1,010 and sits within a broader metro area of 2.5+ million, and its steady growth rate of 0.40% annually points to measured, ongoing demand for home updates and small-scale construction. That steady expansion typically translates into regular needs for landscaping repairs, driveway maintenance, garden renovation, and modest building projects rather than a boom of large developments. The local climate—228 sunny days each year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b—creates a balance between wet-season runoff and long dry spells. That combination means homeowners benefit from quality bulk materials that manage water (drainage rock, sand-based mixes), stabilize surfaces (well-graded aggregates), and support planting beds and erosion control (topsoil, mulch). In Bassett, selecting materials that match both seasonal moisture and frequent sun exposure keeps projects durable and reduces rework over time.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching material performance to the job: think about load, drainage, appearance, and how often the surface will be used. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and blends each have different drainage and compaction properties, so pick one that fits your driveway, garden, or base layer needs. Use our online material calculator or contact our team for a quick recommendation based on project size and site conditions.
Choose materials that compact well and shed water to handle vehicle loads and seasonal freeze-thaw cycles in West Nebraska. A well-graded aggregate for a base plus an appropriate wearing surface helps control mud and rutting; always consider drainage and crowning for runoff. If you are unsure, ask our team for a recommendation that balances durability and local availability.
As a rule of thumb, a typical single-car driveway (about 12 ft by 50 ft) at 4 inches depth needs roughly 6 cubic yards of material, while a two-car driveway (about 20 ft by 50 ft) at 4 inches needs roughly 10 cubic yards. These are estimates—actual needs depend on depth, existing base, and compaction; use our calculator or provide dimensions and desired depth for a precise quantity. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons, so small projects may require ordering the minimum or topping up other materials.
West Nebraska sees cold winters, freeze-thaw cycles, and seasonal snow, all of which influence settling, drainage, and frost heave. Choose materials that drain well and compact to resist movement during freezing and thawing, and allow for snow-clearing needs. Regional sourcing means materials will reflect local geology, so factor in texture and color when choosing for appearance.
Standard delivery is generally 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Delivery cost can be free in many areas but rural deliveries like Bassett may incur an additional fee depending on distance and access. Minimum order is 3 tons; loads are delivered by contracted dump trucks (usually tri-axle) and you can choose a delivery date at checkout.
Yes, but access matters: trucks need sufficient width, overhead clearance, and a safe place to dump and turn around. Long hauls or difficult access may add delivery fees or require a smaller drop location where you move material by hand or equipment. Tell us about access restrictions when you order so we can match the right hauler and plan the delivery.
Material types and prices can vary because we source regionally; smaller towns like Bassett may have fewer local stockpiles, which can affect lead time and cost. Larger supply hubs nearby often have wider selection and may offer better per-ton pricing, but delivery distance is a key factor. Always check your zip code for local options and get a quote to compare total delivered price.
Permit needs depend on the work: driveway cut-throughs, changes to roadside drainage, or large-scale grading can require county or township approval. HOA rules may also restrict material type, color, or placement. Check with Rock County public works and any local HOA before ordering to avoid delays or rework.
Contact our team as soon as possible—changes are easiest before the order is processed or dispatched. Once the material is loaded or the truck is en route, modifications may be limited and additional fees could apply. We will do our best to accommodate requests and explain any options available.
Natural materials vary by local geology, so texture, color, and size mix may differ from photos or samples. If you have concerns, contact customer service promptly and we will review the delivery details and next steps according to our policies. We recommend ordering a small test load or requesting photos of the available material in your area if appearance is critical.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout, but it is not guaranteed. The driver will assess safety and feasibility on arrival and may decline if conditions or equipment do not allow spreading. Plan for the possibility of a drop-only delivery and arrange tools or help if you need spreading.
