Local Insights
Allen is a small but active community with a city population of 700, and its measured annual growth rate of 0.40% annually points to steady, incremental development rather than a construction boom. That steady growth typically creates consistent demand for upkeep, yard upgrades, and selective new builds—think driveway repairs, patio installs, garden refreshes, and modest additions—rather than large-scale infrastructure projects. In Allen's climate, with an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, 228 sunny days annually, and placement in hardiness zone 8b, homeowners need materials that balance drainage and moisture retention while tolerating ample sun exposure. That means sourcing reliable base materials for grading and drainage, durable topsoil and compost for planting beds, and sun-stable mulches and sands for hardscaping. Local sourcing matters: regional aggregates will reflect the area's geology and perform more predictably in local soils and weather patterns.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Pick a material based on traffic, drainage needs, and maintenance. For heavier vehicle use, choose a denser, well-graded aggregate and make sure you have a compacted base; for better drainage, select coarser material and design proper slope. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team for a recommendation based on your driveway size and expected use.
Delivery cost depends on the material type, load size, distance from the supplier, and site access. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing in the checkout and provides local quotes for your zip code; note minimum orders start at 3 tons and free delivery may apply in many areas. For an exact price, get a quote on the website or call our team.
Materials that drain well and compact reliably generally perform better through freeze-thaw and hot summers. Well-graded, angular aggregates used with a stable base resist movement and frost heave better than loose, fine materials; attention to drainage and proper installation is as important as material choice. Local sourcing means materials reflect regional geology, so ask our team about options commonly used in West Nebraska.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for delivery and installation because the ground is not frozen and access is easier. Avoid scheduling heavy deliveries during extended freeze-thaw periods or when fields are very wet to reduce the risk of ruts or restricted truck access. Standard delivery requires 2+ business days; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee.
Yes, many local suppliers and contracted haulers deliver to rural properties and neighborhoods in Allen, but availability depends on road conditions, turnaround space, and site restrictions. Large dump trucks typically require a clear path and firm ground; if access is limited, discuss alternatives with our team before ordering. You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but drivers will decide if it can be done safely on arrival.
Choose based on slope, desired appearance, and how much maintenance you want to do. Coarser materials help slow water flow and reduce erosion on slopes, while finer top layers or mulch may be better for planting areas; combining materials with fabric or vegetation often gives the best long-term control. Contact our team with pictures or details about the slope for tailored recommendations.
Prices vary widely by material type, distance to the supplier, and current local supply and demand, so providing a single number is unreliable. Hello Gravel provides up-to-date pricing and quotes for your zip code when you request an order online. For planning, get a quote through the site or contact sales to compare options and see volume discounts.
Yes, many suppliers offer volume pricing and contractor rates for large, repeat, or scheduled orders. Hello Gravel can help connect you with local suppliers that provide bulk discounts or contractor accounts; contact our sales team for details and to set up a contractor pricing arrangement. Availability and terms vary by supplier and region.
Coarser, open-graded materials promote faster drainage and are less likely to wash away on steep slopes, while fine, compacted materials can hold soil but may impede drainage. A layered approach—coarse material for drainage, then finer material or vegetation for surface stabilization—often works best, and geotextiles or terraces can improve performance. Site-specific factors like slope angle, soil type, and rainfall intensity should guide final choices.
You can order materials through Hello Gravel's website by entering your zip code (primary zip 68710) to see local supplier options, prices, and delivery dates. Choose your delivery date in checkout, request services like tailgate spreading, and contact our team for help with material selection or large orders. If you prefer, call 855-241-8884 or text 844-407-3734 for assistance and quotes.
Calculate the area (length x width) and multiply by the desired depth to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards; use the material calculator on Hello Gravel for a quick estimate. Remember that most orders have a 3-ton minimum and some materials compact differently, so add 5-10% for compaction and waste. If you are unsure, send project dimensions to our team and we can help confirm quantities.
