Local Insights
Roy has a city population of 240, set within a larger regional market with a metro area population of 2.5+ million and steady growth of 1.90% annually. That steady expansion translates into consistent local construction demand—more driveways, yard renovations, garden beds, and small infrastructure projects—rather than sudden booms. Roy's climate—with 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, 228 sunny days per year, and a Hardiness Zone of 8b—creates a mix of wet-season stress and prolonged sun exposure. In practice this favors materials that manage water, resist UV and fading, and compact reliably to limit erosion and settling. For homeowners, that means choosing the right blends of gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone to match slope, drainage needs, and plantings. Sourcing quality bulk materials locally helps projects last longer and saves time and money on rework. Local soil types and Roy's pattern of wet-and-dry periods directly affect material performance: repeated wetting followed by sunny drying can lead to settling, dust, and washouts if base layers and surface covers are not selected and placed correctly. Homeowners should prioritize drainage capacity, particle sizing, and compaction needs rather than appearance alone, and plan seasonal work around wetter months. Hello Gravel helps Roy residents by connecting them with locally sourced materials and experienced haulers, offering quantity calculators and delivery scheduling so you can pick materials tailored to the area's rainfall, sun exposure, and hardiness. That local guidance reduces guesswork and helps projects stand up to Roy's specific conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

We deliver a range of bulk materials across Roy and nearby areas, including gravel, sand, dirt, stone, mulch and other aggregates. Material availability depends on local suppliers and regional geology, so texture and color may vary. Check your zip code on our site to see what’s available in your area.
Start by naming the project (driveway, drainage, garden bed, or decorative path) and the performance you need (stability, drainage, or appearance). For most jobs you’ll choose from gravel, sand, dirt or stone based on firmness, drainage and look; our online material quiz and sales team can recommend options for Roy’s local conditions. If you’re unsure, contact us with project dimensions and expected use and we’ll suggest suitable materials.
Coverage varies by material, compaction and depth, but as a rule of thumb 1 ton of many common aggregates covers roughly 80 to 100 square feet at a 1-inch depth. Heavier or denser materials and compacted bases will cover less area, and loose, fluffy materials cover more. Use our material calculator for a more precise estimate based on the specific material and depth you plan to use.
Measure length and width in feet and desired depth in inches, then use this formula: (length x width x depth) / 324 = cubic yards. To convert cubic yards to tons, note that most aggregates weigh about 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on material; use our calculator for exact conversions. Order a little extra (5-10%) to allow for compaction and grading.
We serve Roy (59471) and many nearby zip codes; check your exact zip on our site to confirm availability. Delivery fees depend on the supplier location, distance to your property, order size and local trucking costs—some areas qualify for free delivery while others have a fee. Add your address at checkout or contact our team for an upfront delivery estimate.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order processing, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Exact timing depends on supplier and truck availability in the West Montana region. Select your preferred delivery date during checkout and we will confirm scheduling after processing.
Our minimum order is generally 3 tons, which is a common threshold for dump-truck deliveries, but small-load options can occasionally be arranged depending on local supplier and hauler availability. If you need less than the minimum, contact our team to check for alternative solutions like bagged material retailers or special small-load services. We’ll work with local partners to offer the best practical option when possible.
Price depends on the material type, the quantity, and delivery distance from the supplier to your Roy address. Because regional sourcing and hauling costs vary, the fastest way to get an accurate number is to enter your zip code and material choice on our site or request a quote from our sales team. We show transparent pricing and will confirm any additional delivery fees before processing.
Natural aggregates reflect local geology, so color, texture and particle size can vary by supplier and region. We try to represent materials accurately, but exact matches to online photos cannot be guaranteed. If color or texture is important, add notes at checkout and contact our team so we can guide you on local options and what to expect.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but spreading is not guaranteed and depends on site access and safety. Prepare by clearing a drop zone free of cars, low branches and obstacles, and mark the preferred drop location with visible stakes or flags. If spreading is needed, request it at checkout and our team will note it for the driver to assess upon arrival.
