Local Insights
Huntley is a small but growing community with a city population of 1,820 and easy access to a broader metro market of 2.5+ million residents. Its steady annual growth rate of 1.90% means more renovation, infill, and new construction—translating into steady demand for bulk materials. With 228 sunny days per year and average rainfall of 34.25 inches, homeowners here balance sun-driven landscaping needs with the necessity for reliable drainage and erosion control. Hardiness Zone 8b supports a wide range of plantings, which influences choices for soil mixes, mulch, and irrigation-friendly aggregates. For local homeowners, that combination of growth and climate means practical, multi-use materials—gravel, sand, dirt, mulches, and stone—are in demand for driveways, patios, grading, and landscape beds. Quality, regionally sourced materials matter because they are already matched to local geology and weather patterns, reducing surprises on appearance and performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose a material based on expected traffic, drainage, and the amount of maintenance you want. For vehicles you generally want a stable, compactable base topped with a coarser, well-draining layer; for light traffic a finer surface can work. Consider local freeze-thaw conditions in Huntley and ask our team for help sizing the base and surface for your specific driveway.
Pick a material that balances comfort, drainage, and appearance for the project. Stable, compactable materials are good for patios and walkways where a firm surface is needed, while looser decorative material can work for paths and planting beds. Use edging and proper base preparation to keep materials in place and reduce tracking.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area in feet, multiply to get cubic feet, then divide by 27 to get cubic yards. Convert cubic yards to tons using our material calculator since weights vary by material; typical conversions range by material type. Our site calculator can take your measurements and preferred depth and give an estimate to simplify ordering.
Pricing is transparent and based on material, quantity, and delivery location; many areas qualify for free delivery. We have a minimum order (3 tons) and rural deliveries to places like Huntley may include additional fees depending on distance and access. Check your zip code at checkout or contact our team for a detailed quote.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date in checkout, and we will confirm scheduling with the local hauler. Keep in mind lead times can change seasonally or with high demand.
Access depends on driveway width, overhead wires, gate heights, and surface conditions. Tell us about any access limits and upload photos or add notes at checkout so the driver and supplier can plan the safest drop-off point. If trucks cannot reach the exact spot, we can discuss alternate drop locations or additional hauling options.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout. Whether it is done depends on safety, equipment, and site conditions, and no spreading service is guaranteed. If spreading is essential, discuss options with our team before ordering.
Natural materials reflect local geology, so color and texture can vary by supplier and location. Photos are representative but not exact; if color is important, include preferences in Order Notes and ask our team about local options. We will do our best to match requests but cannot guarantee an exact match to images.
Look for materials with good drainage and stability to minimize frost heave and pooling in winter. Well-draining, coarse materials for base layers with a stable surface layer perform better in freeze-thaw conditions; avoid fine, silty materials where freezing and thawing are common. Our team can recommend suitable aggregate mixes based on local climate and your project type.
For erosion control choose larger, angular, or heavier materials that resist movement and promote stable slopes; for decorative uses choose sizes and colors that match your design goals and are comfortable to walk on. Consider the slope, water flow, and maintenance needs when selecting materials. If you need both functions, we can recommend a blend that balances stability and appearance.
Yes, we support large and repeat orders through our network of local suppliers and haulers. Contact our sales team for bulk pricing, scheduling options, and priority delivery windows to coordinate materials for multiple jobs. We can help set up recurring orders or single large deliveries based on your timeline and storage constraints.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible; changes are easier before an order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate modifications, but the ability to change or cancel depends on processing status and supplier scheduling. See our policies for details and reach out promptly to improve the chance of a successful change.
