Local Insights
Garrison is a small community with a city population of 240 that sits within a much larger regional market—the nearby metro area has a population of 2.5+ million and continues to expand at a steady rate of 1.90% annually. That steady growth means more remodeling, landscaping, and infrastructure projects over time rather than a sudden construction boom; homeowners should expect consistent demand for driveways, yard upgrades, drainage work, and small-scale site improvements. With 228 sunny days per year, an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, and a hardiness zone of 8b, local projects need materials that balance sun exposure, occasional heavy rain, and plant-friendly soils. In practice that means choosing durable surface aggregates, well-graded base materials for drainage, moisture-retentive topsoil or compost for plantings, and erosion-control mixes where slopes are involved. Quality bulk materials reduce callbacks and save time on installation in this mixed sunny-and-wet climate.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching material performance to the job: consider load (foot traffic vs vehicles), drainage needs, slope, and desired appearance. In Garrison's climate, choose materials that compact well and tolerate freeze-thaw cycles; discuss options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone with our team if unsure. Use our material calculator to estimate quantities and request samples or photos from local suppliers to confirm color and texture. When in doubt, ask about compaction and base layers to improve long-term performance.
Garrison experiences freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal snowfall that can cause frost heave and drainage issues if materials are not chosen or installed correctly. Prioritize materials and installation methods that promote drainage and resist movement, and allow extra depth or a compacted base in areas with heavy frost. Regional sourcing means materials will reflect local geology, so check with our team for local recommendations. Proper grading and drainage are often more important than the specific material type.
Standard delivery typically requires 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Deliveries are made by local contracted dump trucks (usually tri-axle) and the minimum order is 3 tons. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout and add notes about access or placement. Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed.
Rural properties often have narrow approach roads, low-hanging lines, soft shoulders, steep driveways, or tight turning areas that can limit where a dump truck can safely stop. Measure gate widths, note overhead obstacles, and provide a clear drop-off point in your order notes; sending photos to our team can speed planning. If access is restricted, consider a nearby alternative drop location or ordering smaller loads over multiple deliveries. Our dispatchers coordinate with haulers to minimize surprises but cannot guarantee access until the driver arrives.
Quantity conversions vary by material, but a common range is about 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on density and moisture. Use Hello Gravel’s material calculator for a project-specific estimate and select the unit you prefer when ordering. Plan on ordering 5% to 10% extra for waste, compaction, and grading, especially for driveways or sloped areas. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons, so small jobs may exceed that threshold.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for installation because ground conditions are drier and compaction is easier, reducing the risk of frost-related movement. Materials can be delivered year-round, but winter deliveries may be more difficult to place and muddy or frozen ground can affect installation quality. Check local weather and allow extra lead time in peak seasons. If you need winter delivery, add access and placement details in order notes and expect potential delays.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion and when it can be done safely, but spreading is not guaranteed as a service. For precise grading, compaction, or landscape finishing, we recommend hiring a local contractor or renting equipment. You can request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess feasibility on site. We coordinate delivery logistics but do not promise full installation or finishing services.
Because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, texture, color, and particle size can vary based on local geology, so exact matches to online photos are not guaranteed. Photos and descriptions are meant to show typical appearance and use; if color or texture is critical, ask for local supplier photos or small samples before ordering. You can add color or material notes at checkout to guide sourcing. If the delivered material is significantly different than described, contact customer service and we will work to resolve it.
Local rules vary, so check Garrison city or county codes and any HOA covenants before altering driveways, curbs, or major landscaping. Always call 811 or your local utility locator before digging to avoid buried utilities, and confirm setback or drainage rules with local authorities. Permits may be required for changes that affect public right-of-way or stormwater flow. When in doubt, contact local building or public works departments for guidance before ordering materials.
Delivery pricing depends on distance from the supplier, load size, truck type, access difficulty, and seasonal demand, so costs vary by zip code and order specifics. Hello Gravel provides transparent pricing and will show delivery fees or free-delivery eligibility at checkout for your zip code. For the most accurate estimate, enter your zip code on our site or request a quote and include access notes or photos. If you need faster delivery, next-day service is available for an additional fee and may affect cost.
