Local Insights
Edgar is a small community with a population of 200, yet it sits within a broader regional market — a metro area home to 2.5+ million people — that drives steady demand for housing, infrastructure, and landscaping. A growth rate of 1.90% annually points to modest but consistent construction and renovation activity: homeowners are often updating yards, replacing hardscapes, and adding outbuildings over time rather than reacting to a short-term boom. Edgar’s climate—about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, in USDA Hardiness Zone 8b—shapes material choices. Residents need aggregates, soils, and additives that manage both runoff during wet periods and drying and UV exposure during long sunny stretches. That mix of conditions makes correct grading, drainage-friendly soils, stabilizing base materials, and regionally sourced supplies especially important for long-term performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with the project goal: drainage, durability, or appearance. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone each perform differently for compaction, drainage, and aesthetics, so pick one that matches your needs and local climate. Use our material quiz or contact our team for a recommendation based on your site conditions and budget.
Measure the area in square feet and decide the depth you want, then use this formula: (area in sq ft x depth in inches) / 324 = cubic yards. Convert cubic yards to tons using our online calculator, since the conversion varies by material type and moisture content. If you prefer help, use Hello Gravel’s calculator or call our team with your measurements.
Standard delivery is typically 2 or more business days from order, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Exact timing depends on supplier and local truck schedules, so you will receive a delivery window after your order is confirmed. Plan extra time during busy spring and summer months.
Yes, we deliver to rural addresses in and around Edgar, but remote locations can affect price and lead time. Rural deliveries may incur additional fees for long travel, tight access, or off-road placement; check your ZIP code for exact availability and costs. Minimum orders start at 3 tons.
Drivers will place loads from the dump truck and may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion. You can request spreading at checkout, but it is not guaranteed and will depend on safety and site conditions at delivery. For precise placement or spreading, consider arranging additional labor in advance.
Edgar’s freeze-thaw cycles, seasonal rainfall, and local soils can affect settling, drainage, and erosion. Choose materials that offer good drainage and compaction for freeze-thaw resilience, and allow for proper grading and drainage features to reduce washout. Regional sourcing means color and texture may vary from photos.
Demand is highest in spring and summer when most landscaping and outdoor projects happen, so lead times are longer then. Fall can be a good time for delivery before winter, but check ground conditions to avoid delivery issues. Order early in peak season to secure your preferred date.
Prices vary by material, supplier, and order size, and regional sourcing affects cost in West Montana. For an accurate price, enter your ZIP code on our site or request a quote; larger orders often lower the per-ton price. We provide transparent pricing and will show delivery fees and options before you check out.
Check local county rules and any neighborhood or private road restrictions before ordering, since weight limits, road closures, or permit requirements can affect delivery. Let us know about narrow driveways, low-hanging wires, or private roads when you order so carriers can plan the safest route. If a permit is needed, arranging it before delivery helps avoid delays.
Contractors typically order larger volumes, schedule recurring deliveries, and may need faster turnaround or specific delivery windows. DIY customers usually order smaller quantities and appreciate guidance on quantity and material selection. Our platform serves both by connecting you to local suppliers and providing calculators and scheduling tools.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but not all changes can be made once the supplier or truck is scheduled. Review your order details at checkout and add notes for any special instructions.
Natural materials vary by region, so color and texture differences are common with gravel, sand, dirt, stone. If the material does not meet your expectations, contact customer service promptly and provide photos and order details so we can work with the supplier to find a satisfactory solution. See our policies for more information on issue resolution.
