Local Insights
Winston County's population is 19,024, set within a broader metro area of 2.4+ million. A steady growth rate of 0.69% annually indicates ongoing, predictable demand for home projects—think driveway repairs, landscape renewals, and small-scale construction—rather than rapid boom-driven development. The local subtropical profile (Hardiness Zone 8b) with 228 sunny days per year and about 33.90 inches of rainfall annually creates a need for materials that manage both moisture and sun exposure. Homeowners and contractors in the county frequently balance needs for drainage-capable aggregates, stable base materials for driveways and pads, quality topsoil and compost for planting, and UV-resistant mulches. Because materials are regionally sourced, texture and color vary; choosing the right gradation, quantity, and delivery timing helps projects last longer and reduces costly reorders.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Truckload pricing varies by material type, supplier, delivery distance, and seasonal demand. Hello Gravel provides upfront quotes based on your zip code and selected material; minimum orders start at 3 tons. For an accurate price, get a quote through the site or contact our team with your project details.
Coverage depends on material density and desired depth, but a simple rule of thumb is that one ton covers about 80 to 100 square feet at a 2-inch depth. Heavier materials cover less area and deeper depths require more tons. Use Hello Gravel’s material calculator for a precise estimate for your project in Winston County.
Tonnage depends on your driveway width and depth. For example, a 100-foot long by 10-foot wide driveway at 3 inches deep typically falls in the range of about 8 to 15 tons depending on material density. Use the site calculator or contact our team with length, width, and desired depth to get a tailored estimate.
A typical tri-axle dump truck commonly used for material delivery carries about 10 to 14 tons, depending on the material's density and local weight limits. Larger trucks can carry more, and local road or jobsite restrictions can affect truck size used for delivery. If you need a specific truck type, note that in your order and our team can advise.
A 20x20 area at 3 inches deep is roughly 3.5 to 4 cubic yards, which translates to about 4 to 6 tons depending on material. Delivery is handled by contracted dump truck fleets; standard lead time is 2+ business days, with next-day options available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. You can request a delivery date at checkout and add order notes for drop location or spreading needs.
Hello Gravel serves many areas across Mississippi — check your zip code to confirm service in Winston County. Standard delivery lead time is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum order is 3 tons and delivery is made by local contracted trucks; tailgate spreading may be possible at the driver’s discretion.
Consider the project goal (driveway, patio base, drainage, or garden), load requirements, desired appearance, and local climate or soil conditions. Because materials are regionally sourced, gravel, sand, dirt, stone and similar aggregates will vary in texture and color, so pick a material that matches both function and look. If you’re unsure, use Hello Gravel’s aggregate quiz or contact our sales team for guidance.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but there are no guarantees; safe access and site conditions determine whether spreading is possible. Compaction is usually not included — for best results, plan for mechanical compaction or hire a local contractor after delivery. Note seasonal and weather conditions in Winston County can affect spreading and compaction timing.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible — modifications are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate changes but cannot guarantee all requests can be fulfilled. If there is an issue with delivery or materials, contact customer service and we will work to resolve it according to our policies.
