Local Insights
Moorhead has a city population of 1,380 and sits within a broader metro area population of 2.5+ million that is growing at a rate of 1.85% annually. That steady, sustained growth tends to create ongoing demand for homeowner projects and incremental construction—new driveways, yard upgrades, small additions, and landscaping refreshes—rather than a single rapid boom. Moorhead's climate and geography (hardiness zone 8b with 228 sunny days per year and an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches) influence which materials perform best: products that balance drainage with moisture retention, resist rutting during wet spells, and support warm-season planting cycles. For homeowners that means choosing from a range of bulk materials—dirt, sand, gravel, mulch, and stone—sized and sourced locally so they meet footing, drainage, and planting needs while minimizing future maintenance.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Start by identifying the project purpose: drainage, erosion control, a walking path, or a driveway. Consider traffic load, slope, and desired appearance, then select a material that matches those needs; for example, choose products with good drainage for wet areas. Regional sourcing means local options may vary, so use our material calculator or contact our team for recommendations for gravel, sand, dirt, stone.
Measure the length and width of the area and decide on the depth you want, then multiply area by depth (in feet) to get cubic feet and divide by 27 to convert to cubic yards. If you prefer tons, contact us or use our calculator since conversion depends on material density. For small to medium projects in Moorhead, ordering a little extra for compaction and grading is common.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Minimum orders start at 3 tons and deliveries are performed by local dump truck fleets (typically tri-axle). You can request tailgate spreading at checkout, but drivers perform spreading at their discretion and it is not guaranteed.
Materials reflect local geology and will vary in color, texture, and size, so what you receive may not match photos exactly. We encourage customers to note color preferences at checkout and to contact customer service with concerns before delivery. Samples or close-up images from local suppliers can help set expectations for gravel, sand, dirt, stone.
Delivery costs depend on distance from the supplier to your zip code (38761), load size, road access, and any special handling needs. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing up front and often offers free delivery in many areas; check your zip code at checkout or request a quote for an exact price. For large or remote deliveries, additional fees may apply and we recommend scheduling early.
West Mississippi sees heavy rain at times, so prioritize materials and grades that promote drainage and resist washout during wet seasons. Schedule major deliveries and grading during drier periods to reduce tracking and settling, and avoid work when the ground is saturated. Local suppliers can advise on material performance in Moorhead’s climate for gravel, sand, dirt, stone.
Permit and HOA rules vary by location, so check with Moorhead or Humphreys County offices and your homeowner association before starting work. Some projects require permits for driveway changes, impermeable surface increases, or curb cuts. We can help with quantities and delivery logistics, but you should confirm local rules before ordering.
Hello Gravel coordinates a network of local suppliers and haulers to support contractor schedules, but availability can vary by season and location. For multiple or time-sensitive jobs, schedule deliveries well in advance, confirm staging and access at each site, and communicate any special requirements. Large or recurring orders may qualify for priority scheduling—contact our team to discuss options.
Maintenance depends on use, climate, and installation: periodic top-ups, weed control, and regrading are common for loose surfaces, while compacted bases need less frequent attention. Choose materials suited to traffic levels and slope to minimize erosion and migration. Proper installation and occasional maintenance extend service life for gravel, sand, dirt, stone surfaces.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; early changes are easier to accommodate. Once an order is processed or dispatched, changes may be limited and fees may apply. Our team will explain options and next steps based on your order status and delivery timeline.
