Local Insights
Montgomery County serves a diverse and evolving homeowner market with a city population of 300,000 inside a broader metro area of 2.4+ million. With a measured growth rate of 0.69% annually, demand is steady and incremental—fueling home renovations, infill building, and small- to medium-scale landscaping projects rather than large-volume boom construction. The local subtropical climate (hardiness zone 8b) and abundant sunny exposure (228/year) combined with moderate precipitation (33.90 inches annually) shape which materials perform best: products that balance drainage, UV resistance, and resilience to periodic heavy rains are in highest demand. For homeowners this means prioritizing quality bulk materials—properly graded soils, durable aggregates, and weather-adapted mulches or sands—that match local conditions and reduce long-term maintenance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with the project purpose: load-bearing surfaces need harder, more compactable material while drainage projects need more permeable options. Consider appearance, maintenance, and how local weather (hot, humid summers and heavy rains) will affect performance. If you are unsure, use our material quiz or contact the Hello Gravel team for a recommendation that compares gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates.
Costs are driven by the amount ordered, distance from the supplier, and truck access to your site. Minimum orders, local demand, and optional services like next-day delivery or tailgate spreading can add fees. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing up front and will note any extra charges before you confirm.
Measure the project area in square feet and decide on the depth you need in inches, then convert to cubic yards using volume = (area x depth) / 324. Different materials pack at different densities, so convert cubic yards to tons using the density range for your chosen material or ask our sales team for a quick conversion. Ordering a little extra to account for settling and grading is common practice.
Yes. Montgomery County's hot, humid summers and heavy rain events can affect compaction, drainage, and erosion. Choose materials and installation timing that support good drainage and resist washout, and avoid major deliveries or grading during or immediately after heavy rains. Plan projects for drier windows when possible to get better compaction and finish.
Often yes, but access constraints can affect delivery options and price. Narrow roads, low bridges, soft driveways, or strict weight limits may require smaller trucks, staging areas, or a different drop location. Provide photos and detailed access notes at checkout or call our team so we can match the right hauler to your site.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion if requested. We confirm timing after dispatch but do not guarantee exact arrival windows.
Clear a safe drop zone free of vehicles, toys, and low-hanging branches, and mark the preferred spot with cones or flags. Ensure the ground can support the truck weight and provide gate codes or contact info for the driver. If curbside or street blocking may be required, check local rules and permits ahead of time.
Many aggregates settle after placement, so allow time and plan to compact or top up areas as needed after initial settling. Consider drainage, edging, and weed control to prolong the appearance and function of the material. For load-bearing surfaces, follow recommended compaction steps for the material type and your project.
Natural materials vary by region, so color, texture, and size may differ from photos. Document the issue with photos and contact Hello Gravel customer service promptly so we can work with the supplier and hauler to resolve it. See our order and refund policies for full details.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; we will do our best to accommodate requests before the order is processed or dispatched. Once the material is on the truck or a supplier has started processing the order, changes may not be possible. Check your confirmation for the cut-off and contact numbers.
Delivery pricing combines the material price per ton with a delivery fee based on distance, truck type, and site access. Extra fees can apply for next-day service, difficult access, spreading requests, or local permits for street drops. Hello Gravel displays all known charges before checkout so you can review costs up front.
