Local Insights
Ellisville's city population of 10,660 sits within a growing West Mississippi region anchored by Columbus, where the surrounding metro area population is 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.85% annually means steady demand for home improvements, infill development, and smaller-scale construction projects that often rely on locally sourced bulk materials. With an annual rainfall of 34.25 inches, about 228 sunny days per year, and a USDA hardiness zone of 8b, homeowners need materials that balance water management and heat tolerance. That translates into practical choices across gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone: products that promote drainage, resist washout during summer storms, and hold up under prolonged sun exposure. For homeowners and contractors alike, quality bulk materials reduce rework, improve landscaping performance, and make budgets stretch further on driveways, grading, raised beds, and erosion control.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Ellisville typically order materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone for driveways, garden beds, pathways, and erosion control. These materials are used for base layers, surface dressing, leveling, and improving drainage. Because we source regionally, the exact texture and color may vary across West Mississippi.
Choose a material based on the project's purpose: load-bearing surfaces need compactable materials, while planting beds and drainage features favor more permeable options. Consider appearance, budget, and local soil conditions, and use our material quiz or contact our team for guidance. Local geology can affect performance, so we recommend a quick site assessment for large projects.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of the area and use our online calculator to convert cubic yards to tons; the minimum order is 3 tons. Small landscaping jobs often need a few tons, while driveways and larger grading projects typically require many more tons. If you are unsure, send photos or dimensions and our team can help estimate quantities.
Ellisville's humid climate and periods of heavy rain make drainage an important factor; materials that promote good runoff and compaction often work best in wetter stretches. Local soils can be clay-rich in places, which affects settling and drainage, so you may need a drainage layer or different gradation. Regional sourcing means materials reflect local geology, so plan for slight color and texture variation.
Most homeowners schedule deliveries in spring, fall, or other drier periods to avoid muddy conditions, but deliveries are available year-round. Standard delivery takes 2+ business days; next-day delivery is sometimes available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. For large or weather-sensitive projects, book as early as possible and pick a dry window.
Yes, many local suppliers and haulers deliver to rural and unpaved addresses around Ellisville, but access limitations can apply. Drivers need sufficient room to turn and a firm surface to dump from a tri-axle truck; remote sites may incur additional fees or require a different drop location. Provide clear delivery instructions and photos of the site when possible to avoid issues.
Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (typically tri-axle) and require a clear drop zone free of low overhead lines, parked cars, or soft ground. We have a minimum order of 3 tons and standard lead time of 2+ business days; next-day options are available for qualifying orders. Tailgate spreading can sometimes be provided at the driver's discretion, but it is not guaranteed.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading when it is safe and practical, but this service is provided at their discretion and is not guaranteed. You can request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess on arrival whether it can be done safely. For precise placement or graded work, consider hiring a landscaper or contractor.
Delivery costs vary by zip code, distance from the supplier, and site conditions; many areas offer free delivery while others have a fee.
