Local Insights
Todd County homeowners—serving a community with a city population of 25,000—are working in a market shaped by steady, manageable growth. A growth rate of 0.69% annually points to consistent demand for maintenance, yard upgrades, and targeted infill projects rather than a construction boom; that steady pace favors quality materials that deliver long-term performance. Local climate and geography matter: an annual rainfall of 34.00 inches and about 152 sunny days per year create cycles of wet and dry conditions that affect drainage, erosion, and plant establishment. In this environment, reliable bulk materials—gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone—play distinct roles, from forming stable bases and improving permeability to supporting garden beds and erosion control. For homeowners, choosing locally sourced materials that reflect regional geology helps ensure aesthetics, longevity, and compatibility with Todd County growing conditions and construction trends. Todd County's combination of seasonal moisture and moderate sunlight creates specific challenges for material performance. Soils and surface materials must manage runoff during wetter periods while resisting settling or washout; conversely, sunny stretches speed drying and influence mulch decomposition and plant water needs. That means permeability, grading, and compaction matter across projects: from driveway bases and drainage trenches to raised beds and erosion control measures. Hello Gravel helps homeowners navigate these trade-offs by connecting them to local suppliers, offering material guidance and calculators, and arranging convenient delivery windows so homeowners can match material choices to Todd County's local conditions and project timelines.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Homeowners in Todd County typically order a mix of gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, base layers, garden beds, and grading. Choices depend on function—drainage and compaction needs guide base and driveway materials, while landscaping beds favor lighter, finer materials. Local suppliers can advise which group works best for your specific project and site conditions.
Prioritize materials with good drainage and compaction properties when planning for freeze-thaw and wet conditions common in Minnesota. A well-graded aggregate base and proper drainage combined with good site preparation reduce frost heave risks. Talk with suppliers about regional mixes that are commonly used locally for durability in Todd County's climate.
Prices vary by material, quantity, and delivery distance, but many customers in the Minnesota Region see ballpark ranges of about $20 to $60 per ton. If you prefer cubic yards, typical pricing often converts to roughly $25 to $80 per cubic yard depending on density and type. Always check Hello Gravel's online quote for exact pricing, including delivery and any fees.
Hello Gravel requires a 3-ton minimum and uses local contracted dump trucks, typically tri-axle trucks, for deliveries. Confirm site access before ordering: trucks need adequate width, overhead clearance, and a safe place to turn; soft shoulders, narrow lanes, gates, and low bridges can prevent trucks from reaching the drop point. Provide access notes at checkout and contact customer service if you have tight or rural access.
Late spring through early fall is the most reliable window for deliveries and outdoor projects to avoid frozen ground and spring thaw problems. Early summer offers the best chance for timely compaction and minimal weather delays, while late winter and early spring can be disrupted by frost heave and wet roads. If you need a specific date, use the checkout calendar and consider next-day delivery options if available.
Requirements vary by township, county road authority, and any applicable HOA; some rural roads or bridges may require permits or weight restrictions for heavy trucks. Before ordering, check with Todd County public works, your township, and any HOA to confirm rules about deliveries, driveway permits, and road use. If a permit is needed, arrange it ahead of your delivery date to avoid delays.
Typical orders vary by project: small patios and garden beds often use a few cubic yards (1-5 tons), a standard residential driveway commonly needs about 10-40 tons depending on width and depth, and long rural driveways or private roads can require 50-500+ tons. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team for a site-specific estimate based on dimensions and desired depths.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, but spreading is not guaranteed and depends on safety and site conditions. You can request spreading at checkout and note access or slope concerns, but plan on drop-off as the standard delivery. For larger jobs, many contractors arrange dedicated haul-and-spread services through their own crews or by booking specialized local haulers.
Materials reflect local geology, so texture, color, and gradation can vary across suppliers in the Minnesota Region. That regional variation is normal and does not necessarily affect performance, but if color or texture is important, add notes to your order and ask suppliers for details. Photos are helpful but not exact matches; contact customer service if you need guidance selecting a specific regional option.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible; we will do our best to accommodate changes before your order is processed or dispatched. For delivery issues, contact customer service promptly so we can work with the supplier and hauler to find a satisfactory resolution consistent with our policies. See the refund and issue resolution info on our website for more details.
