Local Insights
With a population of 20,030, Sartell is a city experiencing steady, manageable growth at 0.40% annually—a pace that typically produces consistent demand for home improvement, infill construction, and outdoor upgrades rather than boom-cycle volatility. That steady expansion, combined with about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, means homeowners are planning more durable outdoor living spaces, reliable driveways, and well-drained landscapes. Being in hardiness zone 8b further shapes planting and soil choices, so local projects often need a mix of topsoil and amendments for gardens, aggregates for drainage and base layers, and mulches or organic mixes for plant health. Quality bulk materials matter here because they influence long-term drainage, erosion control, and the ability of plantings and paved areas to perform through seasonal changes.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching material performance to the job: think about drainage, compaction, and appearance. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone can serve different roles (base, finish, fill), so use our aggregate quiz and material calculator to compare options and quantities. Consider local climate and traffic levels in Sartell when selecting materials, and contact our team for guidance if you are unsure.
Use our online calculator for the most accurate estimate based on project dimensions and depth. As a rule of thumb, 1 cubic yard of most aggregates typically weighs about 1.2 to 1.6 tons, but weight varies by material and moisture content. If you prefer, send project dimensions to our sales team and we can help double-check quantities.
Sartell's freeze-thaw cycles affect compaction and drainage, so avoid final grading in the middle of deep freeze if possible. Deliveries can be scheduled year-round, but winter access, frozen ground, and snow can complicate spreading and placement. Plan work for late spring through early fall for easiest handling, and tell us about site access so we can advise on timing.
Permits and HOA rules vary by project and neighborhood, so check with Sartell city offices and your homeowners association before ordering. Driveway replacements, curb cuts, and certain grading or drainage changes often trigger city permits. If you need help understanding local requirements, contact our team and we can point you to common resources.
We arrange delivery through local, contracted haulers using dump trucks (typically tri-axle) and require a minimum order of 3 tons. Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You select a preferred delivery date at checkout, and drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion if it is safe to do so.
Clear a drop location free of vehicles, low branches, and obstacles and provide a straight-in access route if possible. Identify where you want the material dumped and mark any hazards or fragile areas in the order notes. If access is limited or the ground is soft, mention that at checkout so we can advise and your driver can assess on arrival.
Because we source regionally, texture and color can vary with local geology, so materials may not exactly match photos or samples. This natural variation is normal for materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, stone. If color or consistency is critical, add a note at checkout and contact our team for guidance before ordering.
Contractors often set up account-level quotes and scheduled deliveries to match job timelines; contact our sales team for bulk pricing and recurring schedules. Provide delivery windows and site details in advance so haulers can plan routes and staging. We work with multiple local suppliers to support larger volumes and tight timelines when possible.
We partner with trusted local suppliers whose materials reflect regional geology and common industry standards, but exact specifications can vary by source. If you need gradation or spec sheets for a project, request them when ordering and we will do our best to provide supplier information. For critical structural uses, consult your contractor or engineer about required specs before ordering.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to modify or cancel an order; changes are easier to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to help, but modifications may not always be possible once a truck is scheduled. See our order and refund policy for full details.
Price depends on material type, quantity, delivery distance, site access difficulty, and time of year. Larger orders typically lower the per-ton delivery cost, and difficult access or tight delivery windows can add fees. Enter your Sartell zip code at checkout to get an upfront quote and contact our team for a detailed estimate.
Use coarser, angular materials where drainage and load-bearing are important, and finer, compactable materials where a smooth grade or finish is desired. Think about function first: stability, drainage, and how the surface will be used, then choose a material group like gravel, sand, dirt, stone that matches those needs. If you are uncertain, our material quiz and sales team can recommend a solution based on your project goals.
