Local Insights
Millville, with a city population of 700, sits inside a metro region that serves 2.5+ million residents and is experiencing measured growth at 0.40% annually. That steady, modest growth typically creates ongoing demand for home improvements, infill construction, and landscape upgrades rather than rapid expansion; homeowners often prioritize durable driveways, improved drainage, and low-maintenance yards. Millville's climate—228 sunny days per year, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b—shapes which bulk materials perform best. Products that balance drainage, compaction control, and UV/weather resistance are valuable here, and local geology affects texture, color, and settling behavior. For landscaping and construction projects, reliable aggregates, soils, sands, and mulches help projects last longer and require less rework over time.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Think about how the area will be used, how it drains, and how much maintenance you want. Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, and stone vary in appearance, compaction, and drainage; choose options that suit foot or vehicle traffic and local winter conditions. Use our material calculator and contact our team for guidance if you are unsure.
Costs vary by material type, delivery distance, and project size, so small homeowner jobs often total a few hundred dollars while contractor-scale orders can run into the thousands. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing at checkout and many areas offer free delivery; remember we have a minimum order of 3 tons and delivery fees may apply for next-day service.
Millville's freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and spring runoff can shift loose materials and cause settling or washout. Pick materials and installation methods that promote good drainage and plan for spring regrading or topping up after winter. For frost-prone areas consider deeper bases and materials that resist excessive movement.
We require a minimum order of 3 tons and most deliveries use dump trucks (typically tri-axle). Standard delivery is scheduled for 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee; drivers may perform tailgate spreading at their discretion. Provide clear delivery notes and check your zip code for local availability.
Some cities, counties, or HOAs have rules about driveway materials, curb cuts, or visible front-yard surfacing, so check local codes and HOA guidelines before ordering. Permits are more common for changes to driveways or stormwater alterations; when in doubt contact your local planning office or HOA to confirm requirements.
Quantity depends on area and depth, but as a rough guide: a small 1-car driveway often needs 3–7 tons, a 2-car driveway 6–12 tons, a patio 2–5 tons, and a planting bed 1–3 tons. Densities vary by material (roughly 1 cubic yard equals about 1.2–1.5 tons), so use our material calculator or contact our team for a precise estimate.
Contractors typically plan deliveries around dry weather and project sequencing, so schedule material delivery at least several days to a week ahead for planned installs. Standard delivery takes 2+ business days; allow extra time in winter for freeze-thaw delays and coordinate delivery timing with your contractor to avoid site congestion.
Compare materials by function (driveway vs decorative bed), drainage needs, maintenance requirements, visual preferences, and budget. Consider longevity, how easily the material compacts or shifts in freeze-thaw conditions, and whether you want low-maintenance or a surface that needs periodic topping up.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion but it is not guaranteed; request the service at checkout and the driver will assess safety and access on arrival. Clear a safe drop area, remove obstacles, give truck parking instructions, and protect nearby surfaces to ensure a smooth delivery.
Materials are regionally sourced, so texture and color reflect local geology and can vary from photos or samples. If color or texture is important, note preferences in your order and consider ordering a small sample or extra material for future repairs.
Contact our customer service team as soon as possible; changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will make our best effort to accommodate requests, but modifications are not guaranteed once suppliers or trucks are scheduled.
Regularly inspect and regrade areas after winter or heavy rain, add top-up material where settling occurs, and maintain proper edging and drainage to reduce migration. For driveable surfaces, occasional compaction and periodic topping up help extend the life of the area.
