Local Insights
Inver Grove Heights has a population of 33,690 and is part of a broader metro region that includes 2.5+ million people; with a steady annual growth rate of 0.40% this area sees modest, predictable demand for residential and infrastructure projects rather than boom-level spikes. That steady growth means homeowners and small contractors are frequently updating yards, repairing driveways, and investing in drainage and outdoor living spaces. Local climate—an average of 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of rainfall annually, in hardiness zone 8b—creates a mix of wet and dry conditions that influence which bulk materials perform best. Materials that balance drainage, frost and freeze resilience, and plant establishment (topsoil, base aggregates, mulch, and bedding sands) will last longer here, so quality, regional sourcing, and correct gradation matter for long-term results.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Start by matching the material to the project goals: load-bearing areas need stable, compactable aggregates while decorative areas can use lighter textures. Consider local climate and drainage—Inver Grove Heights has freeze-thaw cycles so materials that drain well and compact firmly perform better. Use our material calculator and chat with our team to compare options and sample local deliveries of gravel, sand, dirt, stone.
Cost depends on material type, quantity, distance from suppliers, and site access, so prices can vary by job. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing at checkout, requires a 3-ton minimum, and offers standard delivery in 2+ business days with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Smaller orders or difficult access can raise per-ton costs, so plan accordingly.
Choose well-draining, angular aggregates and a properly built base to reduce frost heave and settling. Proper compaction, correct layer thickness, and good drainage are as important as material choice in Minnesota winters. For most projects, combining suitable base and surface materials—such as locally sourced gravel, sand, dirt, stone—gives the best long-term performance.
Late spring through early fall is the most convenient for delivery and installation because ground conditions are easier and crews are more available. Winter deliveries can be possible but may be limited by snow, frozen ground, or road restrictions and can carry additional fees. Choose your preferred date at checkout and ask about seasonal considerations if you have a tight timeline.
Yes, Hello Gravel partners with local suppliers and haulers who serve Inver Grove Heights and nearby zip codes, but availability can vary by material and exact location. Enter your zip code at checkout to confirm service, pricing, and delivery windows for your address. We work with regional suppliers so materials reflect local geology and seasonal availability.
Calculate square footage, decide the target depth, then convert to cubic yards using: cubic yards = (area in sq ft * depth in inches) / 324. Different materials have different weights, so convert cubic yards to tons using our material calculator or consult our team for safe estimates. Use the calculator on our site for a quick result and round up to allow for compaction and settling.
Permit and HOA requirements vary by project and neighborhood, so check Inver Grove Heights city codes and your HOA before you start. Simple deliveries typically don't require permits, but driveway replacements, large grading changes, or curb cuts often do. Hello Gravel does not obtain permits, so contact local authorities early to avoid delays.
Hello Gravel has a minimum order of 3 tons, and standard delivery is scheduled in 2+ business days with a next-day option for orders placed before noon CST at an extra cost. Delivery fees depend on distance, site access, and season; remote or restricted-access drop sites may incur additional charges. Request tailgate spreading at checkout, but note drivers do this at their discretion and it is not guaranteed.
For slopes and drainage, prioritize well-draining, angular aggregates, proper grading, and features like terraces, swales, or retaining structures to control runoff. Using geotextile fabric under aggregates and ensuring outlet pathways for water can reduce erosion and settling. Discuss your slope, soil type, and drainage goals with our team so you can pick the right mix of materials—gravel, sand, dirt, stone—for long-term stability.
Contractors typically compare material cost, delivery fees, hauling, site prep, compaction, and labor when pricing a job. Use Hello Gravel to get transparent material and delivery pricing, then ask contractors to itemize labor and equipment costs so you can compare apples to apples. Getting multiple quotes and checking references helps ensure you get fair pricing and reliable scheduling.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible—changes are easiest to accommodate before the order is dispatched; we will work with suppliers and haulers to try to make adjustments. If there is an issue on delivery day, document the condition and contact customer service promptly so we can help resolve it. Our refund policy and issue-resolution process are available through customer service; tailgate spreading is at the driver's discretion and not guaranteed.
Clear a safe access path, mark obstacles, and confirm there is enough turnaround or drop space for a tri-axle dump truck; restricted access can add fees or require smaller truck arrangements. Check for county or neighborhood weight limits, and schedule delivery when the ground is firm to reduce the chance of getting stuck. Leaving clear drop location notes at checkout and communicating special instructions with our team helps the delivery go smoothly.
