Local Insights
Hovland is a small community of 270 residents located in a region that ties into a larger metro market of 2.5+ million people. That modest, steady growth of 0.40% annually generally creates consistent demand for home repairs, driveway and landscape maintenance, and occasional small-scale building projects rather than rapid development spikes. With about 228 sunny days per year and average rainfall of 34.25 inches, homeowners experience stretches of dry weather interspersed with wet periods—conditions that make drainage, compaction, and erosion control central concerns. Hovland’s hardiness zone 8b also shapes planting and edging choices, so projects commonly combine structural aggregates, quality topsoil, and stabilizing base materials to protect plantings and surfaces. The local trend favors practical, low-maintenance upgrades, so dependable access to a range of bulk materials helps residents complete projects that stand up to the local climate and seasonal cycles.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Hello Gravel has a 3-ton minimum order. In rural areas like Hovland delivery fees may be higher than urban routes and total cost varies by material, local supplier rates, and distance; check your zip code for an exact quote. We recommend getting an online estimate or contacting our team to see final pricing for gravel, sand, dirt, or stone for your specific location.
For West Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles, choose materials and assemblies that drain well and compact reliably. Generally, angular, well-graded aggregates mixed with a stable base layer perform better than loose fines; landscaping fabric, proper slope, and good drainage reduce frost heave risks. Consider the intended use (driveway, patio, or top-dressing) when selecting between gravel, sand, dirt, and stone.
Local rules can apply to driveways, shoreline areas, wetlands, stormwater management, and visible changes to your property, so check with your township, county, or HOA before delivery. Permit requirements and setback rules vary by jurisdiction; if you are unsure, contact local planning or public works offices to confirm. Our team can provide order documentation if you need it for a permit application.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days after ordering, with a next-day option available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are done by contracted dump truck fleets (usually tri-axle trucks); the driver will confirm access and may decline spreading if conditions are unsafe. Rural routes can require extra coordination, so allow additional scheduling time and confirm the delivery window in your order notes.
First calculate the volume in cubic yards: (length in feet × width in feet × depth in inches) ÷ 324 = cubic yards. To convert to tons, multiply cubic yards by the material's approximate weight (commonly about 1.2 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard depending on the material). Use our online material calculator or contact our team with your project dimensions for help choosing a safe margin for compaction and waste.
Late spring through early fall is usually best for deliveries and installation because frozen ground and snow can hinder compaction and spreading. Deliveries are still available in colder months, but ground conditions may cause delays, restrict truck access, or make spreading impractical. Plan ahead for seasonal demand and factor in extra time for scheduling in shoulder seasons.
Clear a stable drop location with good truck access, mark gates or low branches, and note any narrow roads or weight limits in the order notes. If driveways are steep, soft, or tight, request a smaller truck or additional handling when you order, as standard tri-axle trucks may not reach every site. Communicate special instructions in checkout and be prepared for the driver to assess the final drop location on arrival.
Materials are suitable for driveways, pathways, paver bases, grading and backfill, erosion control, and top-dressing gardens or lawns. When choosing between gravel, sand, dirt, and stone, consider drainage needs, load-bearing requirements, finish appearance, and how much maintenance you want to do over time. If you are unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our team for project-specific guidance and quantity estimates.
