What to know about Big Stone County

Why Big Stone County homeowners choose Hello Gravel

With a city population of 5,269 and easy access to a larger metro area population of 2.4+ million, homeowners in Big Stone County can expect steady, practical demand for residential and light commercial projects. A growth rate of 0.69% annually points to measured expansion—more routine maintenance, incremental new construction, and targeted upgrades rather than a construction boom. Local climate—about 152 sunny days per year and annual rainfall of 34.00 inches in a hardiness zone of 8b—means materials must handle both wet periods and seasonal temperature swings. That combination increases the need for well-draining bases, erosion-control supplies, and frost-resistant aggregates, while also supporting landscaping choices that benefit from sunnier periods. For homeowners, reliable bulk supplies of gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone are essential for durable driveways, proper drainage, patios, and garden beds that perform year-round.

They were quick to reach out to me and fixed a typo of what I was looking for soil wise for my Raised Garden bed. But shout out to Hello Gravel for being quick to reply!

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Big Stone County delivery questions

Do you deliver gravel, sand, dirt, and stone to Big Stone County and the surrounding ZIP codes?

Yes. Hello Gravel connects you with local suppliers and contracted haulers that serve Big Stone County and many nearby ZIP codes, including rural routes. Enter your ZIP at checkout or contact our team to confirm availability for your exact address.

What is the minimum order size for rural deliveries in Big Stone County?

Our standard minimum order is 3 tons. That minimum helps cover truckloads and hauling logistics for rural deliveries; if you need less, we can suggest pickup options or advise on nearby suppliers.

How soon can I get materials delivered in Big Stone County?

Standard delivery is 2+ business days from order, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can choose your preferred delivery date on the checkout calendar, and we will confirm timing once a local hauler is assigned.

How are delivery fees and extra charges handled for remote addresses in Big Stone County?

Delivery fees depend on the supplier, hauler, distance, and site access. Many areas qualify for free delivery, while very remote properties may incur per-mile or fuel surcharges; your exact fee is calculated and shown with your quote before checkout.

What kinds and sizes of materials do you offer for driveways, roads, and landscaping projects?

We offer a range of material types and sizes suited for base layers, surface courses, drainage, and landscaping tasks. Options vary by region and supplier, so use our material selector or contact our team to match the right product to your project needs.

How do I calculate how much material I need for a project in Big Stone County?

Measure the area and desired depth, then use our material calculator to convert to cubic yards and tons. A handy formula is cubic yards = (area in sq ft * depth in inches) / 324; enter that result in our calculator for a materials-specific tonnage estimate and add a small waste allowance.

Can drivers spread material at delivery or help with installation?

Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you can request this service at checkout but it is not guaranteed. For full installation or grading, we recommend hiring a local contractor or landscaper familiar with Big Stone County site conditions.

Are washed, screened, or special-graded materials available and are they more expensive?

Washed, screened, and specialty-graded products are often available but depend on local supplier inventory. These processed options typically cost more than unprocessed bulk materials; your quote will show any price differences so you can choose what fits your budget and performance needs.

Do you offer bulk or contractor discounts for regular orders in Big Stone County?

Yes, contractor pricing and volume discounts are available in many areas. Contact our sales team to discuss recurring orders, account pricing, and longer-term delivery scheduling for your projects.

How do I get an accurate quote and schedule a delivery to my property in Big Stone County?

Provide your ZIP code, delivery address, material type, and estimated quantity through our website or by calling/texting our team. Upload photos or notes about access, obstacles, and preferred drop location to get the most accurate quote and to help the hauler plan the delivery.

What should I expect about material variation and performance in Big Stone County's climate?

Because we source regionally, texture, color, and gradation can vary from supplier to supplier. Minnesota's freeze-thaw cycles and drainage needs affect which materials perform best, so we recommend materials suited for local conditions and are happy to advise on durable choices.

What if I need to change or cancel my order after placing it?

Contact our team as soon as possible with order details; changes are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but modifications may be limited once the hauler has been assigned.
