Local Insights
Baudette is a small but active community of 2,610 residents, and its steady 0.40% annual growth signals modest, ongoing demand for home improvements, property maintenance, and small-scale construction. Being part of a larger regional market (metro area population 2.5+ million) means suppliers are generally available, but local conditions shape what homeowners actually need. With 228/year sunny days and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b, projects here balance sun-tolerant landscaping with reliable drainage needs. That climate profile drives demand for a range of bulk materials — topsoil and fill for raised beds, sand and gravel for drainage and driveways, and mulches and soils for planting — all chosen to perform through wet springs and sunny summers. For Baudette homeowners, quality, regionally sourced materials reduce rework and help projects handle seasonal moisture, UV exposure, and maintenance cycles over time.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with the project goal: stability for driveways, drainage for low spots, or appearance for beds. Consider how the material compacts and sheds water, then pick a type that fits those needs—gravel, sand, dirt, stone and similar aggregates each behave differently. Use our material quiz or contact our sales team for help matching a product to your specific project and budget.
Baudette’s freeze-thaw cycles can cause frost heave and soft spots if a project isn’t built on a stable base. Choose materials and installation methods that promote drainage and compaction, and allow for a stable base layer beneath the surface aggregate. Our local suppliers provide regionally sourced materials suited to West Minnesota conditions, but proper site prep is also essential.
Measure the length and width to get square feet, decide on the desired depth in inches, then use this formula: (area in sq ft x depth in inches) / 324 = cubic yards. Material weight varies, so convert cubic yards to tons using the density for the material you choose or use our online material calculator for a quick estimate. If you’re unsure, send dimensions or photos to our team and we’ll help verify quantities.
Price depends on the material type, local availability, distance from supplier, and order size. Hello Gravel shows transparent pricing and a 3-ton minimum, and delivery fees vary by location and truck routing. For exact costs, enter your zip code on our site or contact our team for a quote tailored to your address and schedule.
Dump trucks typically need a clear turning radius, about 12-14 feet of driveway width and overhead clearance free of wires or low branches. Soft ground, narrow lanes, culverts, gates, or steep slopes can limit drop locations—please mark the preferred drop spot and share photos or notes at checkout. If access is restricted, drivers will discuss options on arrival; planning ahead reduces delays and extra fees.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days from order, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You can select your preferred delivery date at checkout, and we will confirm the delivery window with you. Keep in mind that weather, road conditions, and local trucking schedules can affect timing.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion and if it can be done safely; you can request this service at checkout. We do not guarantee spreading, and the driver will assess feasibility upon arrival. For larger or precise spreading needs, consider hiring local labor or a contractor.
Match the material to the job: materials that lock together provide stability for driveways, while free-draining materials are better for drainage projects. Consider long-term maintenance, expected traffic, and aesthetics when choosing between options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone. If you need help, our aggregate quiz and sales team can recommend the right category for your intended use.
Avoid placing heavy loads on saturated ground during spring thaw when ground may be soft and trucks may get stuck or damage turf. Winter deliveries are possible, but snow, ice, and frozen ground change placement needs and can increase labor difficulty. Schedule deliveries for drier windows when possible and communicate site conditions to our team before delivery.
Confirm material specs, quantities, delivery date, and drop location with your contractor before ordering so the right product arrives at the right time. Contractors often order larger loads to meet job timelines and may request specific gradings or pit sources; share those details at checkout or with our sales team. Allow time for site prep like grading and compaction before delivery to reduce rework.
Because we source regionally, color and texture can vary; product photos are representative but may not be an exact match to what’s delivered. Contact customer service as soon as possible to request changes—modifications are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. If there’s an issue on arrival, report it promptly and we will work to resolve it according to our service policies.
We service Baudette and surrounding zip codes, but availability depends on local supplier and trucking routes—check your zip code on our site to confirm service. Minimum orders start at 3 tons and deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks, typically tri-axle, so larger or consolidated orders can be more efficient for remote locations. If you have a remote driveway or special access needs, share details at checkout so we can plan the delivery.
