Local Insights
Watersmeet is a small community of 1,020 residents where steady population growth of 1.20% annually is nudging demand for modest home improvements and local construction. That steady growth—neither a rapid boom nor stagnation—translates to more homeowners taking on driveway repairs, garden upgrades, and small building projects that rely on dependable bulk materials. Watersmeet’s climate and geography—about 228 sunny days per year, 34.25 inches of annual rainfall, and a hardiness zone of 8b—create mixed needs: materials must shed excess water during wet periods, retain moisture during dry stretches, and support plantings compatible with the growing zone. For landscaping and construction this means choosing aggregates, soils, and mulches that balance drainage, compaction, and appearance, and sourcing locally so texture and color reflect regional geology.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Just a little hiccup in the delivery date but everything worked out well and with great communication from Janel. Ordering went smoothly as well as working with the delivery team to deliver to the appropriate location for my yard.

Prices vary by material, local supplier, and time of year, so there is no single fixed rate. Use Hello Gravel's online quote tool for an exact price; expect pricing to reflect per-yard or per-ton rates plus any delivery fee and a 3-ton minimum order in some areas. Due to regional sourcing, texture and color may vary for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other aggregates. Contact our team for a quick estimate for your zip code.
Multiply the per-yard price by 5 and add any delivery fee or fuel surcharge shown in your quote. Account for waste and compaction by ordering 5-10% extra for flat projects and 10-20% extra for slopes or heavy compaction. If you need a precise number, use the Hello Gravel material calculator or request a quote for 5 cubic yards to include local delivery costs.
Calculate volume by multiplying length by width by depth, then convert cubic feet to cubic yards by dividing by 27. For a 20x20 slab at 4 inches thick: 20 x 20 x (4/12) = 133.3 cubic feet, or about 4.9 cubic yards; remember to order extra for subbase, compaction, and waste. This method works for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and other bulk materials used under or around slabs.
Common dump trucks used in our network often carry roughly 8-12 cubic yards loose, with tri-axle trucks frequently used for larger loads. Choose a truck size based on your site's access and the total yards needed; Hello Gravel will match you with a local hauler and confirm truck size at booking. If site access is tight, mention it at checkout so we can arrange an appropriate truck or split the delivery.
Buying in bulk usually reduces the cost per cubic yard or ton compared with small bags, but savings depend on local supplier rates and delivery distance to Watersmeet. Delivery fees, minimums, and seasonal demand can affect final cost, so compare the delivered price per yard including freight. For large projects, ask about volume pricing or multiple-drop options to lower overall cost.
One cubic yard may physically fit in many pickup beds, but safety depends on the truck's payload capacity and the material's weight; some materials can be very heavy and exceed your truck's limits. Before loading, check your vehicle's payload rating and consider having Hello Gravel deliver by dump truck if you are unsure. We also recommend securing the load and observing local weight and road restrictions.
Use the formula: cubic yards = (square feet x depth in inches) / 324. For 1,000 sq ft: 1 inch deep = about 3.09 cubic yards, 2 inches = about 6.17 cubic yards, and 4 inches = about 12.35 cubic yards; add 5-15% for compaction and waste depending on the material and project. This applies whether you are planning to spread gravel, sand, dirt, stone or another aggregate.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days from order, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; request it at checkout but understand it is not guaranteed. Regional sourcing means lead times and availability can vary, so confirm your preferred delivery date during checkout.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; modifications are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. Changes depend on supplier and hauler schedules, so we will do our best to accommodate your request but cannot guarantee all changes. If there is an issue with the delivered material, contact customer service and refer to our refund policy for next steps.
