Local Insights
Osseo is a small Michigan community of 2,540 residents. With a steady growth rate of 1.20% annually, that growth drives a measured but continuous need for home landscaping, repairs, and small-scale construction—think driveways, drainage fixes, and yard upgrades. As part of a broader region serving 2.5+ million people, local projects also reflect regional development patterns and seasonal outdoor work. The temperate local climate—about 228/year sunny days and 34.25 inches of rainfall, in hardiness zone 8b—means materials must handle alternating wet and dry periods and support plants suited to a milder zone. For homeowners, that translates to choosing durable base materials for grading, well-draining mixes for planting beds, and organic mulches for moisture control. Quality bulk supplies like gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone help projects last longer, reduce maintenance, and simplify installation by matching local conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Measure the length, width, and desired depth of your area in feet, multiply length by width by depth, then divide by 27 to convert cubic feet to cubic yards. For example, a 20x20 area with a 4-inch base needs about 5 cubic yards of material. Use Hello Gravel's material calculator or contact our team for help converting between yards and tons.
Match material performance to the job: drainage and base layers need angular, compactable material while top dressing and plant beds need finer, looser material. Consider load, appearance, and local climate (freeze-thaw and wet seasons in Osseo) when choosing a material. If you re not sure, use our aggregate quiz or call sales for recommendations based on your specific project.
Weight depends on material density and moisture—most bulk aggregates weigh roughly 1 to 2 tons per cubic yard. Because gravel, sand, dirt, and stone all vary regionally, the same volume can have different weights. If you need a ton-based delivery or weight estimate, request a local quote; note that Hello Gravel minimum orders start at 3 tons.
Pickup capacity varies by model and payload rating, so many full-size pickups can carry roughly 0.5 to 1.5 cubic yards when loaded, but that may exceed the vehicle's safe payload. Always check your truck s payload limit before hauling material yourself. For larger quantities, ordering truck delivery through Hello Gravel is usually safer and more convenient.
Standard delivery is typically 2 or more business days from order, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an added fee. Materials are delivered by contracted dump trucks (usually tri-axle), and you can choose your preferred delivery date at checkout. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion; request it at checkout but know it is not guaranteed.
No two loads are identical because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, so texture and color will reflect local geology. Photos and samples are representative but natural materials will vary in hue, size, and consistency. If color or texture is critical to your project, add details in Order Notes and contact our team for guidance before ordering.
Here are rough volume examples to help planning: a 20x20 area with a 4-inch base needs about 5 cubic yards; a 10x20 driveway with a 3-inch base needs about 2.8 cubic yards. Depth matters: increasing base depth from 4 inches to 6 inches raises material needs by about 50 percent. Use our material calculator or contact us with your dimensions for a custom estimate.
Buying in bulk generally reduces the per-ton or per-yard price compared with small loads, but total cost depends on material type, delivery distance, and any spreading or site restrictions. Factor in delivery fees, loading/unloading access, and the quality or certification of the material when comparing options. Get a quote through Hello Gravel to see exact pricing for your address and order size.
Make sure the delivery area is clear of overhead wires, low branches, parked cars, and soft ground that could trap heavy trucks; drivers will assess safety on arrival. If your site requires street parking, permits, or a smaller dump location, let us know at checkout so we can coordinate with local haulers. We cannot guarantee tailgate spreading in all situations, so plan for possible manual spread or hire local labor if needed.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations; modifications are easier before your order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but changes are not guaranteed once a load is assigned to a supplier or truck. Check your order confirmation for instructions and call customer support for fastest service.
