Local Insights
Negaunee homeowners live in a small but active community with a population of 7,720, and their projects are influenced by being part of a broader West Michigan metro area of 2.5+ million that is experiencing steady expansion. A 1.20% annual growth rate points to ongoing residential updates and infill work rather than a construction boom—steady demand that favors reliable, easy sourcing of bulk supplies. The local climate—about 228/year sunny days and roughly 34.25 inches of rain annually in a hardiness zone of 8b—creates a mix of needs: materials must manage both surface water and periods of sun and drying, support plant establishment, and withstand seasonal temperature swings. For homeowners that means choosing the right texture, drainage profile, and gradation for driveways, beds, and grading. Quality locally sourced bulk materials make installs faster, reduce callbacks, and better match the natural soil and neighborhood character.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Delivered cost varies by material, quantity, and distance from the local supplier. Hello Gravel requires a minimum order (typically 3 tons) and provides upfront pricing in checkout once you enter your ZIP code, so you can see delivered cost before you buy. Use the online calculator or contact our team for a tailored quote.
A quick way to estimate is: square footage x depth (feet) ÷ 27 = cubic yards. For example, 1,500 sq ft at 3 inches (0.25 ft) is about 14 cubic yards; at 4 inches it is about 19 cubic yards. Choose the right material (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) and depth based on whether you need base support, drainage, or a finish layer.
Price per yard depends on the material type, local availability, order size, and delivery distance from the supplier. Regional sourcing means texture and coloration can vary, which may also affect cost. Enter your ZIP code at checkout or contact our sales team for exact per-yard pricing.
Standard delivery is 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Same-day delivery is limited and depends on local supplier and truck availability, so contact our team as early as possible to check options. We confirm available dates during checkout.
Extra charges can apply if access is difficult, a truck cannot get close to the drop location, or special permits are required in rural areas. Drivers and suppliers may assess safe access on arrival; we recommend noting access details in the Order Notes. Check your ZIP code at checkout to see any area-specific fees.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion; you should request this service at checkout and note it in the Order Notes. This is not guaranteed and depends on truck type, site conditions, and safety considerations. For guaranteed spreading or landscaping labor, plan to hire a local contractor.
Volume pricing is often possible for larger orders (for example, orders over 20 cubic yards), but discounts depend on supply, haul distance, and scheduling. Contact our team for a custom quote if you are planning a large project. We can also advise on truck types and staging to reduce costs.
Start by identifying the function: drainage, structural base, or decorative finish. Use the aggregate quiz or calculator to compare options and note that local climate and geology can influence performance; materials (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) sourced nearby will reflect that. If you're unsure, contact our sales team with project details and dimensions for tailored recommendations.
Contact our team as soon as possible; changes are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but modifications after trucks are scheduled may be limited. See the order confirmation for next steps and timing.
Yes. Northern Michigan winters and freeze-thaw cycles can affect delivery timing, site access, and material handling. Plan projects for milder months when possible and order earlier in spring and fall to avoid peak demand. If winter delivery is required, discuss access and any extra fees with our team in advance.
