Local Insights
Gregory, Michigan (population 4,530) sits within a growing West Michigan region that is part of a metro area of 2.5+ million people. A steady annual growth rate of 1.20% points to gradual, reliable demand for residential and small commercial projects—more driveway repairs, patio upgrades, garden renovations, and groundwork over time rather than a sudden building boom. Local climate and geography—about 34.25 inches of rain each year and 228 sunny days—create mixed-season work windows and material needs: homeowners want products that manage moisture, shed water, and tolerate sun exposure. Combined with a hardiness zone of 8b, these conditions make regionally sourced bulk materials like gravel, sand, dirt, mulch, and stone important for durable landscaping and construction that stands up to local weather and site conditions.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Material choice depends on the project, traffic load, and desired look. For hard-driving areas choose a denser, compactable aggregate; for drainage or decorative beds pick materials with good water flow and appearance. Use our online tools and guidance to compare options like gravel, sand, dirt, stone and choose what fits your budget and purpose.
Gregory's freeze-thaw cycles, snow, and rain can cause settlement and frost heave if materials or base are not chosen correctly. Pick materials and installation methods that promote drainage and resist shifting, and avoid fine, loose particles where freezing is common. Consider seasonal maintenance like grading and top-ups after winter.
Measure the length, width, and desired depth of your area and use our material calculator to convert cubic yards to tons for common materials. Different materials have different weights, so the calculator and our guidance will give a more accurate quantity. Remember our minimum order is 3 tons, so plan accordingly.
Standard delivery is typically 2+ business days, and a next-day option is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. Many areas have free delivery, but availability and fees depend on your zip code, so check your address at checkout. You choose a delivery date during checkout and we confirm details before dispatch.
Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks, usually tri-axle vehicles, which require clear access and room to maneuver. Provide at least 12-16 feet of horizontal clearance and stable ground; wet or soft surfaces may limit where trucks can safely drop material. If access is tight, contact our team before ordering so we can advise or arrange a suitable drop location.
Drivers may be able to perform tailgate spreading at their discretion, and you can request this service at checkout. The driver will assess safety and feasibility on arrival, but there are no guarantees of spreading. For precise spreading needs, plan for professional spreading or rental equipment.
Because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, texture and color can vary based on local geology and processing. Photos are illustrative; actual material may differ slightly from images you see online. If color or texture is critical, add preferences in Order Notes and contact customer service for guidance before ordering.
Yes. Check local city ordinances, county permits, and any HOA rules for driveways, grading, or changes to drainage before you order. You may need permits for new driveways, curb cuts, or large-scale grading, and utility locations should be marked before delivery. Contact local authorities or your HOA if you are unsure.
Clear the drop area of vehicles, toys, low branches, and landscaping, and mark any sensitive spots or utilities. Make sure the ground is firm and level where possible to avoid rutting and to allow the driver to get close enough to drop material. Provide a clear delivery instruction in Order Notes if needed and be on site or reachable during delivery.
Contact our team as soon as possible if you need to change or cancel an order; requests are easiest to accommodate before the order is processed or dispatched. We will do our best to help, but not all changes are possible and some fees may apply. Refer to our order and refund policies for more details or call customer support for assistance.
Spring thaw and heavy rains can reveal drainage issues and make sites soft, so plan heavy deliveries and grading for drier seasons when possible. Winters may limit work due to frozen ground or snow cover, and material performance can change with temperature and moisture. Schedule projects with local climate in mind and allow time for settling and follow-up leveling.
