Local Insights
Felch has a population of 740 and sits within a growing regional market that benefits from a larger metro area of 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.20% annually means modest but consistent demand for home improvement, new driveways, garden upgrades, and small-scale construction projects — not explosive development but a reliable stream of homeowner work. Local climate shapes material needs: with 34.25 inches of annual rainfall and 228 sunny days per year, homeowners need materials that manage moisture while standing up to sun exposure. The area's hardiness zone of 8b also supports diverse plantings, so topsoil, amendments, and mulches are commonly requested alongside aggregates for drainage and base layers. Together, these trends point to more interest in erosion control, reliable drainage solutions, and landscape products that balance aesthetics with long-term performance.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching the material to the job: think about load (cars vs foot traffic), drainage needs, and desired appearance. In Felch, local climate and freeze-thaw cycles matter, so choose among gravel, sand, dirt, stone based on compaction, drainage, and stability rather than color alone. Use our material calculator and quiz or contact our team for a recommendation based on your project size and site conditions.
Materials that compact well and promote drainage typically perform better through freeze-thaw and snow removal. Well-graded, angular mixes of gravel, sand, dirt, stone that resist rutting and shed water are common choices; avoid very fine, powdery material on driveways or paths. Consider proper thickness and a stable base to reduce frost heave and improve longevity.
Measure the area in feet (length x width x depth) and divide by 27 to get cubic yards. Material weight per cubic yard varies by type, so use our online calculator to convert cubic yards to tons or call us for help. Add about 10-15% for waste, compaction, and grading adjustments on most projects.
Late spring through early fall is typically easiest for delivery and installation because ground conditions are favorable and weather delays are less likely. Winter deliveries are possible but can be slower and may require additional planning for frozen ground and snow removal. Order early for busy seasons and remember our standard delivery window is 2+ business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee.
Permit and HOA rules vary by township and neighborhood, so check with your local municipal office or HOA before starting work. Some projects, especially new driveway connections or changes that affect drainage or culverts, may need permits or county approval. Hello Gravel can help with material delivery but does not handle permit applications.
Rural and steep driveways can affect where trucks can safely dump material; drivers may stage deliveries at the end of the driveway or on the road if access is limited. Suppliers sometimes use smaller trucks or offload equipment for tight sites, and additional fees may apply for long carry or difficult access. Include delivery notes and photos at checkout so suppliers can plan and quote appropriately.
Some drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this is not guaranteed and depends on site conditions and safety. For full grading, spreading, and compaction you should hire a local contractor or landscaper who can provide the proper equipment and a workmanship guarantee. If you want spreading considered, request it at checkout and our team will note it for the supplier.
Slope, soil type, and runoff patterns determine the right approach; choose materials that improve drainage and resist washout for sloped areas. Using coarser mixes, adding a filter fabric, and creating proper pitch or drainage channels can reduce erosion. If you have significant runoff or a steep site, consult with a contractor or our team for options that combine material selection with installation best practices.
Hello Gravel connects you with trusted local suppliers and shows available delivery options for your zip code. Delivery fees, minimum orders, and truck types vary by supplier and distance, so request quotes through our site to compare. Remember our minimum order is typically 3 tons, and service details like truck size and staging will be noted in your delivery confirmation.
We commonly deliver materials for driveways, pathways, drainage beds, garden beds, and lawn repairs. Plan by measuring the area, choosing materials suited to load and drainage, and scheduling delivery for a time when site prep is complete. For larger or more technical jobs, coordinate delivery with your contractor so materials arrive when crews are ready to install.
