Local Insights
Conway is a small but steadily growing community with a population of 420, located within a broader West Michigan metro area of 2.5+ million residents. A measured annual growth rate of 1.20% suggests steady, ongoing demand for homeowner projects and local construction rather than a sudden surge—so materials are needed regularly for updates, repairs, and incremental new builds. The local climate, with about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of rainfall, creates alternating wet and dry conditions that influence material choices: homeowners need reliable drainage solutions, stable base mixes that resist settling during wet spells, and quality topsoil and mulch to support plantings through the long growing season indicated by hardiness zone 8b. In this context, readily available, regionally sourced aggregates, dirt, sand, and mulches help projects last longer and reduce maintenance over time. Conway’s mix of rainfall, sunny periods, and local soil characteristics can create challenges like erosion, washout, and uneven settling if materials or installation methods aren’t matched to site conditions. That makes material gradation, proper compaction, and erosion-control considerations important across many projects—from driveways and patios to garden beds and grading work. Hello Gravel’s role is to simplify those decisions: by connecting homeowners to local suppliers and haulers, offering quantity calculators and scheduling options, and providing guidance based on local sourcing and experience, we help you choose the right materials for Conway’s climate and soil without guesswork.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Choose based on traffic, drainage needs, and appearance. For most driveways consider materials that compact well and allow water to pass through or drain away; your decision will also depend on the base prepared and expected vehicle weight. Use our material calculator or contact our team to match options for Conway's climate and to estimate quantities. Remember minimum orders start at 3 tons and local sourcing means texture and color may vary.
Think about function, look, and maintenance: do you want a decorative finish, a walking surface, or improved drainage? Materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone can be layered or combined—mulch or finer top dressings for plant beds and coarser, angular materials for paths and drainage. Account for weed control, edging, and the depth you plan to install to get accurate quantities and the right performance.
Measure the area in feet and decide on the required depth, then convert to cubic yards (area x depth) and use our online calculator to convert cubic yards to tons for ordering. Typical depths range from 2-4 inches for top dressing to 4-8 inches for base layers, but exact needs depend on the material and project. Contact our team if you want help with the math or a contractor estimate.
Standard delivery is typically available in 2+ business days, and next-day delivery can be offered for orders placed before noon CST with an additional fee. We connect you with local suppliers and contracted haulers, so availability depends on zip code and local schedules—check your zip code at checkout. Drivers use professional dump trucks, and optional tailgate spreading may be requested but is performed at the driver's discretion.
Yes—ensure the drop zone is reachable by a tri-axle dump truck, clear of low-hanging wires, and has a stable surface for the truck to park and dump. Provide a clear turnaround when possible and mark the desired pile location; narrow rural roads or soft ground after rain can limit where trucks can safely operate. If street permits or neighbor access is needed, arrange those before delivery and note special instructions at checkout.
Freeze-thaw cycles and seasonal wetness in West Michigan can cause frost heave and affect drainage, so choose materials and depths that promote drainage and resist movement. In many cases a well-compacted base and proper slope are as important as material type for long-term performance. Expect different performance from the same material installed in frozen ground versus a dry, warm season.
No—because we source materials regionally, color, texture, and size can vary depending on local geology and seasonal stock. Photos are representative; you can add color or texture preferences in the Order Notes but exact matches are not guaranteed. Contact customer service if appearance is critical before ordering.
Winter and early spring can slow delivery and complicate installation due to frozen ground, ice, and wet roads; spring thaw can cause muddy conditions that limit truck access. Plan projects for late spring through early fall when possible for easier delivery and installation. If you need work during colder months, discuss timing and spreading limitations with our team in advance.
Price depends on material type, quantity, distance from the supplier, and local supply conditions in the West Michigan area. There is a minimum order of 3 tons and additional fees may apply for next-day delivery or remote access. Contractors and large jobs can often get better per-ton pricing, so request a quote for bulk needs.
Yes—you can request tailgate spreading or specific placement instructions at checkout, but drivers will only perform spreading at their discretion and safety permitting. Clearly mark the site, leave a contact number for the driver, and add notes about obstacles or preferred pile location. We will pass instructions to the hauler, but spreading and special services are not guaranteed.
Contact our customer service as soon as possible; we will do our best to modify orders before they are dispatched. For delivery issues or material concerns, report them promptly so we can work with the supplier and hauler to find a satisfactory solution according to our policies. Refer to the refund or resolution guidance on our website for details about next steps.
