Local Insights
Brethren is a small but active community of 930 residents where steady growth of 1.20% annually is supporting ongoing home improvement and new-build activity. That steady, measurable growth typically translates into consistent demand for landscaping and construction materials as homeowners update properties and local contractors respond to yard work, driveways, and small construction projects. Brethren's climate — roughly 228 sunny days and 34.25 inches of rain each year, in a hardiness zone of 8b — creates a need for materials that manage both moisture and sun exposure: well-graded aggregates and base mixes that handle seasonal movement, soils and amendments that support plants through dry spells, and mulches or surface materials that control erosion. With a larger regional market of 2.5+ million people nearby, supply networks can support a variety of locally sourced options, but regional geology means texture and color will vary. For Brethren homeowners, reliable bulk deliveries of gravel, dirt, sand, mulch, and stone make it easier to plan and execute projects with predictable results.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Prices vary based on the type of material, local supplier rates, distance from the quarry, and seasonal demand. For materials like gravel, sand, dirt, stone you should expect variations, so the fastest way to get an accurate price is to check your zip code on our site and request a quote. Keep in mind Hello Gravel has a minimum order (3 tons) and delivery fees or access charges can affect the final price.
Estimate by multiplying the supplier’s per-yard price by the quantity, then add delivery and any extra fees for tight access or spreading. Because regional sourcing can affect texture and price, get a local quote for Brethren (zip codes we serve listed at checkout) and use our material calculator to convert between yards and tons. Contact our team if you need a quick quote or help choosing the best material for your project.
A 20x20 slab typically needs about 5 cubic yards of concrete and a few cubic yards of base material, but exact needs depend on slab thickness and soil conditions. Costs vary by material choice, hauling, and local labor, so use our estimator for material quantities and then request a delivery quote for gravel, sand, dirt, stone and concrete base. For a reliable budget, factor in delivery costs, site prep, and any compaction or spreading services you may need.
The number of 50 lb bags per cubic yard depends on material density, so there’s no single answer for all materials. For common loose materials you’ll typically see anywhere from about 20 to 60 50 lb bags per cubic yard; lighter products are toward the low end and dense aggregates toward the high end. Use our online calculator or contact our team with the material type and we’ll give a precise bags-to-yards conversion.
Buying bulk usually lowers the per-unit cost compared with bagged products, especially for larger projects, but you should include delivery, storage space, and potential contamination risks in your decision. For Brethren homes with limited space or small jobs, bags can be more convenient despite higher per-unit cost. We can help you compare options and choose the most economical approach for your project size.
Most personal pickup trucks cannot safely carry 3 cubic yards of loose material and are limited by bed volume and weight capacity. For safety, road-legal weight limits and ease of unloading, many customers opt for delivery by our contracted dump trucks instead. If you plan to use a truck, check its payload rating and consider ordering delivery when in doubt.
Hello Gravel coordinates deliveries with local haulers using dump trucks (commonly tri-axle) that typically deliver multiple cubic yards per load; exact capacities vary by truck and material weight. Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but spreading is not guaranteed, and you should request it at checkout if needed. Confirm site access, overhead clearance, and any hard-to-reach locations before delivery to avoid extra fees or delays.
Standard delivery is scheduled for 2+ business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee.
