What to know about Bitely

Why Bitely homeowners choose Hello Gravel

Bitely is a compact community of 1,440 residents situated within the broader West Michigan region that serves a metro population of 2.5+ million. A steady growth rate of 1.20% annually points to consistent residential and infrastructure demand—think ongoing driveway repairs, yard upgrades, and targeted new construction rather than a sudden building boom. The local climate—about 228 sunny days per year and 34.25 inches of annual rainfall in hardiness zone 8b—creates alternating wet and dry periods that directly affect which bulk materials perform best. Homeowners in Bitely commonly need reliable bulk supplies—soil and topsoil for grading and plantings, sand and aggregates for drainage and bedding, mulches for moisture management, and assorted stone for stable surfaces. Choosing quality, regionally sourced materials helps projects resist erosion, settle predictably, and match local color and texture.

They were quick to reach out to me and fixed a typo of what I was looking for soil wise for my Raised Garden bed. But shout out to Hello Gravel for being quick to reply!

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Bitely delivery questions

How much does a cubic yard of material typically weigh and why does it vary?

A cubic yard of bulk material usually weighs between about 1.2 and 2.0 tons, depending on type and moisture. Regional geology around Bitely can change texture and density, so weight varies by supplier; use our material calculator or ask our team for a more precise estimate.

Will one cubic yard fit in my pickup truck?

Many full‑size pickup beds can hold roughly 1 to 1.5 cubic yards, but payload capacity, bed size, and local road rules matter. For most projects in Bitely it is easier and safer to have materials delivered by our dump‑truck partners instead of relying on a pickup.

How much area does one cubic yard cover at different depths?

One cubic yard equals 27 cubic feet and will cover about 324 sq ft at 1 inch depth, 162 sq ft at 2 inches, and 108 sq ft at 3 inches. These are theoretical values; compaction, settling, and grading can reduce coverage, so add 5-10% extra for waste and compaction.

How do I estimate how many yards I need for a 20x20 slab or base?

Multiply length by width by depth (in feet) and divide by 27 to get cubic yards. For example, a 20x20 area at 4 inches depth needs about 5 cubic yards; add 5-10% for waste and variations when ordering materials like gravel, sand, dirt, or stone.

Is buying dirt or other materials in bulk cheaper than buying bags?

Buying bulk is generally more cost‑effective per cubic yard than bagged material, especially for larger projects, but factor in delivery fees, minimum order sizes (our minimum is 3 tons), and storage or handling on site. For small jobs, bags can be more convenient despite higher unit cost.

What does a “10‑yard truck” mean and how much will it deliver to my property?

A 10‑yard truck carries about 10 cubic yards of material by volume; actual delivered weight depends on material density and moisture. Deliveries to Bitely are typically made by tri‑axle dump trucks contracted through local suppliers; verify access and drop location when ordering.

How long will delivery take in Bitely and can I get next‑day service?

Standard delivery is 2+ business days from order; next‑day delivery may be available for orders placed before noon CST with an extra fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout and we will confirm timing once a local hauler is assigned, but exact arrival times are not guaranteed.

Can the driver spread the material for me on delivery?

Drivers may be able to do tailgate spreading at their discretion and if it can be done safely; you should request this service at checkout. Because spreading depends on access, load type, and driver assessment, Hello Gravel does not guarantee spreading on delivery.

How do seasonal and local conditions in Bitely affect material selection?

Bitely’s regional geology and West Michigan climate influence texture, coloration, and performance—freeze‑thaw cycles and drainage needs matter. Choose materials based on use: well‑draining aggregates for driveways or drainage, coarser base material for structural bases, and blended top dressing for lawns; contact our team for local recommendations.

What if I need to change or cancel my order after placing it?

Contact our customer service as soon as possible—changes are easier before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but modifications depend on supplier and hauler schedules, so earlier notice increases the likelihood of success.

What should I do if the material looks different than expected?

Natural materials can vary in color and texture due to regional sourcing, so some variation is normal. If the delivered material differs significantly from what you expected, contact customer service promptly and we will work with the supplier to address the issue and explain next steps.
