Local Insights
Chesterfield's city population is 757, and it lies within a broader metro area with a population of 2.5+ million. With a modest annual growth rate of 0.40% annually, construction and landscaping demand tends to be steady and incremental rather than boom-driven—homeowners are more likely to pursue targeted upgrades, driveway repairs, garden refreshes, and small-scale hardscape projects. The local climate and geography — hardiness zone 8b, about 228 sunny days per year, and average annual rainfall of 34.25 inches — favor materials that balance drainage and moisture retention. In practice that means a need for a variety of bulk supplies: base aggregates and sand for drainage and compaction, soils and amendments for planting beds, and mulches or surface stone for erosion control and aesthetics. Selecting properly graded, locally sourced materials helps projects last longer in these conditions.

While I cannot speak to the actual service, I did enter my phone number to get a quote. I realized it was probably too much for my small project. But I received a very helpful follow up text conversation, and after I explained it was probably more than I needed, they still took time to help me work through how much I would need, and offered me possible solutions, even knowing I wouldn't be using their product. Makes me wish they had fit my needs, if that's the level of service they provided even to a non customers

Homeowners and contractors in Chesterfield typically order a mix of materials such as gravel, sand, dirt, and stone for driveways, paths, landscaping beds, backfill, and drainage work. These materials are chosen based on function—structural base, top dressing, or drainage—and local suppliers source them to reflect regional geology, so texture and color may vary.
Pick materials based on load, drainage, appearance, and maintenance needs: use denser, well-graded material for load-bearing areas and freer-draining material where water needs to move away. Consider local freeze-thaw conditions and soil type in Chesterfield, and use our material calculator or contact our team for recommendations tailored to your project and access constraints.
Calculate needs by multiplying the area by the desired depth to get cubic yards, then convert to tons using the material density—densities vary by product. For example, a 12-by-20 foot area at 3 inches deep is about 2.2 cubic yards, which is roughly 3 to 4 tons depending on whether you choose gravel, sand, dirt, or stone.
Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days and Hello Gravel has a minimum order of about 3 tons; next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. Deliveries are made by contracted dump trucks (usually tri-axle), so truck access, overhead clearances, and neighborhood restrictions can affect timing and drop location.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion, but this service depends on truck setup, site conditions, and safety and is not guaranteed. Request spreading at checkout and the driver will assess whether it can be done safely on arrival.
Chesterfield's cold winters, freeze-thaw cycles, and snow mean you should plan projects around frost and spring thaw to avoid working on saturated or frozen ground. Choose materials and depths that improve drainage and resist frost heave, and schedule deliveries for dry windows when possible to reduce compaction and tracking issues.
Because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, texture, color, and particle size can vary from photos and between batches, especially in a place like Chesterfield with local geological differences. Photos are representative; you can add color or texture preferences in order notes and contact customer service if you have concerns before delivery.
Clear the drop zone of vehicles, obstacles, and fragile landscaping, mark underground utilities, and provide a firm access route for heavy trucks to avoid damage and delays. If street parking or a long driveway is involved, check local restrictions and consider a shorter drop point to keep trucks off soft ground.
Contact Hello Gravel as soon as possible—changes are easiest to make before the order is dispatched and may be limited once a truck is assigned. We will do our best to accommodate requests, but final availability and any fees depend on supplier and carrier schedules.
