Local Insights
Union has a city population of 3,630 and sits within a metro area of 603,000, placing it in a context of steady, manageable growth rather than rapid expansion. A growth rate of 0.50% annually means construction and landscaping demand rises incrementally — homeowners are more likely to tackle remodeling, driveway repairs, garden upgrades, and modest new builds than large-scale subdivisions. Local climate and geography — including 47.00 inches of annual rainfall, 215 sunny days per year, and USDA hardiness zone 7b — create a need for materials that manage moisture, support plants through seasonal cycles, and resist erosion under both wet and sunny periods. For Union projects, reliable bulk supplies like gravels, sands, soils, mulches, and stone blends matter because they determine drainage performance, load-bearing capacity, and long-term stability of driveways, patios, planting beds, and retaining work.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start with the project's purpose: drainage, driving, walking, or decorative use. Consider durability, compaction needs, and appearance—materials that drain well are better in Maine's wet and freeze-thaw conditions. Use our material calculator or contact our team for guidance and sample recommendations based on your project's size and use.
Union experiences cold winters, freeze-thaw cycles, and a wet spring, all of which can cause settling and shifting. Choose materials and installation depths that improve drainage and resist frost heave, and expect regional color and texture variations. Plan for extra compaction and maintenance after the first thaw.
Our minimum order is 3 tons, and standard delivery is generally 2+ business days depending on supplier availability in Union. Next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee, and free delivery may apply in many areas. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout and add notes about access or placement.
Late spring through early fall is the most reliable window for deliveries and installations, when roads are dry and the ground is not frozen. Winter deliveries are possible but often slower and may be restricted by snow, ice, or frozen ground. Avoid the spring thaw for heavy grading or base work, since wet roads and soft soil can delay trucking and compaction.
You should check with Union town offices and MaineDOT for any permits, curb cut rules, or weight-restricted roads before ordering. Rural roads, bridges, and HOA or conservation rules can affect delivery routes and placement. If in doubt, contact your municipal office and let our team know any restrictions when you place an order.
Typical ranges: small walkway or plant bed 1–3 cubic yards, 8–10 cubic yards for a 12x12 patio, and 10–30 cubic yards for a single-lane driveway depending on length and depth. In tons, that often translates to roughly one to three tons for small jobs, and 12–35 tons for medium driveways; local material density varies, so use our calculator or contact us for a precise estimate. Always add 5–10% extra for grading, compaction, and uneven surfaces.
Deliveries are typically made by tri-axle dump trucks that need enough turning radius, a clear approach, and stable ground. Narrow lanes, low-hanging wires, soft shoulders, steep grades, and weight-restricted bridges can limit access or require drop-off at the nearest safe point. Add clear notes and photos at checkout so the driver and hauler can plan the best approach.
You can request tailgate spreading or special placement in the order notes, but spreading is performed at the driver's discretion and cannot be guaranteed. Drivers will assess safety and feasibility on arrival, and offering a spotter or clearing a staging area can increase the chance they can help. For precise placement or spreading, consider hiring a local contractor or arranging additional labor.
Materials are regionally sourced, so color, texture, and particle size can vary with local geology and supplier stock. Photos are representative, not exact matches, and natural materials will show variation. If appearance is a key concern, note color preferences at checkout and contact our team for local samples or guidance.
Contractors can schedule bulk deliveries and coordinate multiple drops, but should provide precise access details and any permit information ahead of time. Payment is handled online with major cards and digital wallets, and orders above minimums can be timed to staging needs. Communicate early with our team to confirm availability, delivery windows, and any special handling requirements.
