Local Insights
South Thomaston is a community of 3,720 residents (city population) within a wider metro area of 603,000 (metro area population). With a steady growth rate of 0.50% annually (growth rate), construction and landscaping demand is incremental and predictable—think routine driveway repairs, drainage upgrades, and periodic landscape refreshes rather than rapid boom-time building. Local climate and growing conditions—47.00 inches of annual rainfall (annual rainfall), 215/year sunny days (sunny days), and a USDA hardiness zone of 7b (hardiness zone)—mean homeowners benefit from materials that manage moisture, reduce erosion, and support a long planting season. That makes quality bulk supplies like gravel, sand, topsoil, mulch, and stone practical investments for durable driveways, effective drainage layers, raised beds, and paths that perform through wet spells and sunny stretches. Sourcing locally also helps match texture and color to the surroundings while reflecting regional geology.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Prices vary by material, quantity, and delivery distance. In South Thomaston, costs reflect local sourcing and supplier rates; use our online quote tool or request a quote for a specific price. Ordering more material typically lowers the per-yard price.
Weight depends on the material and moisture content, so there is no single number for all materials. A rough range is about 1.0 to 1.6 tons per cubic yard for common aggregates; use our material calculator or contact our team for a more precise conversion.
Most local deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks that commonly carry around 10 to 14 cubic yards or roughly 10 to 14 tons, depending on material density. Exact capacity varies by truck and load restrictions, so we confirm truck size and load with you when scheduling delivery.
First confirm whether you mean 1,000 linear feet or 1,000 square feet; for 1,000 sq ft at 3 inches deep, you need about 10 cubic yards. Multiply area (sq ft) by depth (ft) and divide by 27 to get cubic yards, then convert cubic yards to tons using the material density range or our calculator.
Coverage depends on depth and material density, so coverage can vary significantly. As a rule of thumb, one ton often covers roughly 50 to 100 square feet at typical surface depths; use area, depth, and our calculator for an accurate estimate.
Total cost depends on material type, truck size, and delivery distance, so there is no flat price. Hello Gravel provides transparent, itemized quotes including material and delivery; check your zip code and request a quote to see pricing for your location.
Choose based on load, drainage needs, appearance, and local availability. For structural bases pick a compactable, angular aggregate; for top surfaces consider appearance and runoff; for drainage choose a material with good permeability. If you are unsure, use our aggregate quiz or contact our team for recommendations.
Yes. Because Hello Gravel sources materials regionally, color and texture reflect local geology and natural variation. You can add color or texture preferences in Order Notes, but exact matches to photos cannot be guaranteed.
Contact our team as soon as possible to request changes or cancellations. We will do our best to accommodate requests before the order is processed or dispatched, but changes are not always possible once a truck is scheduled.
Standard delivery typically requires 2 or more business days, and next-day delivery is available for orders placed before noon CST for an additional fee. You choose your preferred delivery date at checkout and will receive delivery confirmation; exact timing can vary by supplier and weather.
Drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion and if conditions are safe and appropriate, but this service is not guaranteed. Request tailgate spreading at checkout and the driver will decide if it can be performed on arrival.
Yes. Cold, wet, or frozen ground in Maine can affect delivery access, material handling, and compaction. Plan ahead for spring thaw and winter weather, allow extra lead time, and discuss seasonal constraints with our team when scheduling delivery.
