Local Insights
South Berwick-2 serves a compact community with a city population of 6,000 and sits within a larger regional market that includes a metro area population of 603,000. A growth rate of 0.50% annually signals steady, manageable expansion rather than a boom—meaning homeowners and small contractors are more often tackling gradual upgrades, driveway repairs, drainage fixes, and garden expansions than large-scale new subdivisions. Local climate shapes material needs: with annual rainfall of 47.00 inches and 215 sunny days per year in hardiness zone 7b, projects require materials that manage moisture, resist seasonal freeze-thaw cycles, and support plantings through a long growing season. That combination drives demand for well-graded base materials, reliable topsoil and amendments, erosion-control products, and durable surfacing options. For homeowners, selecting quality bulk materials helps ensure long-term performance, reduce maintenance, and match products to the practical realities of the local environment.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Start by matching performance needs to material traits: drainage, load-bearing, and appearance. For most driveways and landscape bases, well-draining mixes are preferred; consider local freeze-thaw conditions and how the material compacts. Use our material quiz or contact the Hello Gravel team for recommendations on gravel, sand, dirt, stone and mixes that suit your site and budget.
Calculate volume by multiplying length, width, and desired depth to get cubic yards, then convert to tons using our online calculator. Typical residential driveways use 3 to 6 inches for a top layer or 6 to 12 inches for a full structural base, but exact depth depends on use and soil. Use our calculator or call sales to get a project-specific estimate.
Standard delivery typically takes 2 or more business days, with next-day delivery available for orders placed before noon CST for an extra fee. You can choose a preferred delivery date at checkout and we will confirm timing with the driver. Keep in mind weather, road conditions, and local access can affect timing.
Hello Gravel’s minimum order is 3 tons; pricing depends on material type, distance, and local supplier rates. Delivery fees vary by zip code and supplier—many areas have free delivery promotions, but some routes incur charges. Get an instant quote online or contact our team for detailed pricing.
Local road, weight, or access permits can be required for large loads or restricted streets; requirements vary by town and specific site. We recommend checking with South Berwick public works or your town office before delivery. If needed, we can help coordinate with your supplier or hauler, but securing permits is the customer’s responsibility unless otherwise arranged.
Deliveries can generally be made to tight or steep driveways if the truck can safely access the site; drivers may offer tailgate spreading at their discretion. Minimum order limits still apply, though some local suppliers on our network may offer smaller loads—contact us to explore options. Safety and site conditions may limit spreading or placement, so note access details in Order Notes.
Schedule deliveries before the ground freezes or well ahead of planned winter work, and allow extra lead time during shoulder seasons when weather can be unpredictable. Place orders earlier in the season for larger projects to secure preferred dates. We cannot guarantee weather-related timing, so flexible scheduling is recommended.
Hello Gravel focuses on connecting customers with local suppliers and arranging professional truck deliveries rather than providing full installation. Some suppliers or local contractors can handle grading, compacting, and installation—ask our team for referrals. If you need on-site services, request recommendations when you place your order.
Yes, our supplier network typically offers a wide range of bulk landscaping materials including topsoil, recycled crushed stone, mulch, and more. Availability varies by local supplier and regional geology, so check product pages or enter your zip code to see what’s in stock. You can add notes for color or recycle preferences at checkout.
Clear a truck access route and an appropriate drop zone, mark utilities if needed, and remove obstacles like low branches or parked cars. Ensure the ground can support a loaded truck—soft or wet ground may require an alternate drop location. Add Order Notes with access details and contact information so the driver can coordinate on arrival.
Contact our team as soon as possible; modifications are easiest before the order is processed and dispatched. We will do our best to accommodate changes, but adjustments may not be possible once the hauler is scheduled. See your order confirmation or contact customer service for the next steps.
