Local Insights
Shirley Mills is a very small community of 124 residents, situated within the broader North Augusta, West Maine metro of 603,000 people. With a steady growth rate of 0.50% annually, construction and landscaping demand is gradual and predictable rather than explosive—most activity focuses on incremental improvements, property maintenance, and targeted upgrades rather than large-scale development. The local climate—hardiness zone 7b with 47.00 inches of annual rainfall and about 215 sunny days per year—creates a mix of moist, plant-friendly conditions and frequent wet periods. That combination means homeowners in Shirley Mills commonly need materials that balance drainage and stability (for driveways, paths, and utility trenches), erosion control (for slopes and shorelines), and soil-building products (for gardens and planting beds). Broadly speaking, well-sourced bulk materials like screened topsoil, sand, mulch, and angular aggregates matter here because they influence water management, plant health, and the longevity of hardscape installations under local weather patterns.

Hello Gravel cared more about the structural integrity of my house than they did about making the sale. I was trying to place an order to buy dirt to place between a retaining wall and footings at the base of columns that hold up my house. They could have just sold me anything for profit, but they told me to go get the advice of a structural engineer, knowing that the structural engineer would probably order the dirt himself and possibly from another company. That’s integrity.

Price per cubic yard varies by material type (gravel, sand, dirt, stone), local supply, and order size. Regional factors in West Maine like quarry availability and hauling distance affect cost, so the best way to get an accurate delivered price is to enter your zip code on our site or request a quote. We display transparent delivered pricing for your specific material and delivery address.
Most deliveries use tri-axle dump trucks that commonly carry about 10 to 12 cubic yards, which converts to roughly 12 to 14 tons depending on material density. Exact capacity varies by truck and material (wet sand weighs more than dry stone), so we show the truck type and estimated quantity when you check out. If you need more or less, we can arrange multiple loads or smaller deliveries when available.
Delivered cost for 10 cubic yards depends on the material you choose, the supplier, and the delivery distance into West Maine. Shipping and handling may change for rural locations or tight access, so request a quote for zip 4485 to see an itemized price. Our checkout will show any delivery fees and available delivery windows before you pay.
Yes. Delivered prices for driveway-grade materials vary by product and local availability, so use our website or request a quote with your zip code to see current per-cubic-yard pricing. We also factor in minimum orders and any delivery charges so you see the full delivered price upfront.
Rural deliveries can sometimes incur additional charges depending on drive distance, road conditions, or limited truck access. During checkout we evaluate your address (zip 4485) and note any access concerns; any extra fees will be shown before you confirm. If access is restricted, we will contact you to discuss staging options or safe drop locations.
Our minimum order is 3 tons, which covers most small landscaping and DIY needs. Delivery fees for small orders vary by supplier and distance; some areas qualify for free delivery while remote spots may have a small surcharge. Enter your zip code or contact our team to see exact minimums and fees for your location.
Yes. Our platform compares local suppliers and haulers so you can see delivered prices for different materials (gravel, sand, dirt, stone) across nearby ZIPs. Enter each ZIP into the quote tool to view side-by-side pricing, availability, and delivery windows for the specific materials you need.
Tailgate spreading may be available at the driver's discretion and could add a fee set by the hauler; we recommend requesting this service at checkout so the driver can assess feasibility on arrival. For full spreading and grading, many customers hire a local contractor — you can order delivered material from us and coordinate spreading with a landscaper for a complete price. We do not guarantee spreading services, and any spreading fees will be noted before delivery.
Seasonal shifts in demand, road conditions, and supplier capacity can affect material availability and delivery costs in West Maine. Winter deliveries may be limited or subject to additional charges if roads are icy, snow-covered, or require extra hauling care; we recommend scheduling ahead in colder months. Check our site or call our team for current seasonal guidance and to reserve a delivery window.
